Not all opposition to abortion is based on religion, many people simply believe that unborn children should not be murdered for convenience.

Frankly, when I was conservative but still atheistic, I used to make the 'Secular' argument against abortion. The Fetus feels pain, it's genetically unique, etc.

Then I realized two things.

1) The Plutocrats are very good at getting people like you upset about abortion, but they have no real intent of doing it. It's why they can always pass tax cuts for the rich but can never pass an abortion ban.

2) If you ever got your way, you'd need a fascist police state to enforce it, or you'd have a law that was widely ignored much like Prohibition was. Neither is a desirable state of affairs.

Romania under the Communists (ironically enough) tried to ban abortion and birth control. And their birth rate actually DROPPED, which was the oppossite of the desired effect.

Do you really know what percentage of money is spent on "bureaucracy" vs. what goes to recipiants?

I'll give you a clue. Medicare has a 3% overhead cost, compared to private insurance, which has a 15-20% overhead cost of paying out dividends to shareholders and 9 figure salaries to CEO's. Not surprisingly, Medicare has a much higher user satisfaction rating than private insurance.
