I was at a local gun shop owned by a friend of a friend today to pick up a new Mossberg.
The owner had something sitting open on the counter I had never seen before that set me instantly to drooling.
It's a PTR 12-gauge pump-action shotgun called The Jack, and it is only 17 inches in length. It's a 2+1 or a 3+1.
Say what?
Federal laws are weird. This weapon is classified under the FFA as an AOW (Any Other Weapon). That's a really creative name for that category.
There was a time you could buy a fully automatic machine gun so long as it was purchased by the original owner before 1986 when Reagan made them illegal. Such a purchase is considered a "transfer".
That kind of sale required a lot of paperwork and had very strict rules for the owner to obey.
You can't buy a machine gun any more.
Well, this beauty has the same paperwork requirements and the same rules to follow, but only has a $5 tax stamp!
Anyway, I'm snatching one before the rules change an you can't get one.
Here's what was on the counter:
My friend is going to let me have it for $880. It retails on the PTR website for $990. Deal!
