in regard to July 4th.

Some of my first American ancestors fought to separate from England in the Revolutionary War. Rumor has it, a cousin was one of the signers of the Declaration of Independance. (but only rumor).

I had ancestors in the War of 1812, Civil War, WW1, WW2, Korea, and my younger brother both retired in 1990 after 20 years military service. Neither of us fought, but we were in from 1969 on.

There's a reason I keep Old Glory flying.

It was a family tradition til my nieces and nephews, and their children, decided not to serve.

Their choice.

Where my ancestors first settled in a place called Ft. Valley, Virginia the first stone building was a block house to fight-off Indian attack.....It was later used as a school. As far as I know the N/As never attacked anyone but "The Fort" was an NA hunting ground for millennia.

The Munch house pictured in the article belonged to my family on my grandmother's side.

LOL...."The Fort" is best described as a place in the middle of nowhere that's in the middle of everything. ;)
