Musk-led DOGE sparks ‘new day in America’ energy on Capitol Hill

Mr. Musk delivered a crucial message.

“He said something extremely important: Every single payment that the federal government pays out, we need to be checking those payments to see if they are legitimate,” Ms. Greene told reporters. “That is something that hasn’t been done.”

The DOGE commission’s social media account has been highlighting wasteful and head-scratching ways the government tosses around taxpayer funds.

Reports from conservative-leaning groups show that the National Institutes of Health spent $1.8 billion studying racism, including on “Promoting Color Brave Conversations in Families: A Public Health Strategy to Advance Racial Equity,” and more than $150 billion on illegal immigrants at the federal, state and local levels.

They have cited reports from the Government Accountability Office estimating that $100 billion in improper payments were made in the Medicare and Medicaid programs in fiscal year 2023 and the Congressional Budget Office showing Congress allocated $516 billion for programs that had expired under federal law.

One report said the Pentagon “can’t fully account for $824 Billion.”

There's trillions over a decade that can't be accounted for or justified. The NIH is one of the biggest benefactors of commie academics being paid to do totally worthless shit.

Simple, if the Pentagon can't account for the $824 billion, defund them, until they can.

I'm sure Putin is tired of the US military protecting europe.

Yes, defund the military. Such brilliance, tell us another great idea.
Trump said he would cut federal spending 33%

In 2023, defense spending accounted for 47% of total discretionary spending.

And yet, defense spending is only around 10% of Federal spending .

You sure make it sound like more, which make you dishonest.

You are a very stupid person. What an idiot comment

Wow, how Bidenish of you.

That because the bulk of TOTAL federal spending comes out of trust funds, and not the annual budget. The budget covers the discretionary spending, of which the pentagon is 47% of.

Social Security is considered a budget item, and is often the largest single item in the federal budget, even though technically it operates independently with its own dedicated funding sources and is not subject to the annual budget process in the same way as other programs; meaning the amount spent on Social Security benefits is based on a set formula, not solely on Congressional appropriations each year.

10% goes to the military. Certainly we need Trump to ensure it is not wasted.

The military is one legitimate function of the federal government. Suggesting we defund the military, I can understand the sentiment. I would disagree with taking that kind of action.

You know, it's funny. The USA was not a superpower until WWII, kicked into action when Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor (83 years tomorrow) drew us into the war and set forth our giant industrial-military complex of weaponization, intelligence and global protection. We now police and aid the world.

Biden just bragged about giving 40 billion to Africa while we have people here still living in tents. Then there is the 200 billion given to Ukraine so that it can still get the shit kicked out of them.

Does China police the world? Russia? Anyone else? If the USA reduced its military footprint back to just worrying essentially about THIS country, I bet that would reduce that 47% down to a WHOLE LOT LESS. Maybe 10%? Just imagine the cities, highways, bridges and a hundred other crumbling things we could fix here if we had another 37% of our total discretionary spending to spend on it instead of Angola, Ukraine and 50 other countries?

The Pentagon story is frightening. No wonder Americans voted for major changes. Senators need to support Trumps picks. If Graham for instance, doesn't get on board with Trumps administration, Trump is going to have to support his Primary opponent. That is Trmps ultimate weapon against those resistant to the will of the American People and he must invoke it when warranted.

How do you know they are not Marxist?

Not just "worthless shit", NIH researchers are eligible for up to $150K royalties per year on any drugs they work on developing that PRIVATE Pharma ends up selling (e.g. mRNA COVID vaccines). So essentially, they work for taxpayer funded salaries doing research on drugs that they later pass to private business who then pay them up to $150K per year in royalties for the rest of their lives. Taxpayers are paying NIH scientists to do research to develop drugs that private companies sell back to us and then they get a cut of it.

Good business if you can get it, huh?

This is one of the practices that RFK Jr. wants to put a stop to.
