Musings about the purpose of posting on a message board like this

This is not a sarcastic question. Instead, I toss this question out in a literal way. What is the intended purpose of posting here, in general terms?

Is it to persuade others to consider seeing things differently? For instance, a long time ago, before I confronted my own initial reluctance to change my political party affiliation from Democrat to Republican, I liked reading other people’s posts on various political topics. I consciously challenged own beliefs and thinking.

In that situation, I never got much benefit from reading hate-filled rhetoric or nasty commentary. But I did come across some interesting views which I did manage to give some thought too, from time to time.

In recent years, I definitely became a posting member who had little compulsion ayour engaging in “debate” in an immature manner when I was address others who have demonstrated close-mindedness.

Such posts are like vents to relieve a little bit of pent up emotion. But they certainly aren’t persuasive. Not when I do it and not when others do it.

I have actually learned from a few posting members of the more liberal persuasion. I have absolutely learned from some more conservative posting members.

So, sometimes the reason some of us post can be to just smack-talk the more trollish members; but, at other times, the purpose might be to inform and share insight and reasoning.
It's the inanity!

It's to get my political discussion needs out of the way in here so I can ignore it when people do it on my social media, and in person.
