Red State! Amen.
This is not a sarcastic question. Instead, I toss this question out in a literal way. What is the intended purpose of posting here, in general terms?

Is it to persuade others to consider seeing things differently? For instance, a long time ago, before I confronted my own initial reluctance to change my political party affiliation from Democrat to Republican, I liked reading other people’s posts on various political topics. I consciously challenged own beliefs and thinking.

In that situation, I never got much benefit from reading hate-filled rhetoric or nasty commentary. But I did come across some interesting views which I did manage to give some thought too, from time to time.

In recent years, I definitely became a posting member who had little compulsion ayour engaging in ā€œdebateā€ in an immature manner when I was address others who have demonstrated close-mindedness.

Such posts are like vents to relieve a little bit of pent up emotion. But they certainly aren’t persuasive. Not when I do it and not when others do it.

I have actually learned from a few posting members of the more liberal persuasion. I have absolutely learned from some more conservative posting members.

So, sometimes the reason some of us post can be to just smack-talk the more trollish members; but, at other times, the purpose might be to inform and share insight and reasoning.

I'm here because of boredom.

I'm pretty much housebound, and it's either this, television, or reading.

Television sucks, I can read online, but HERE, I can pull out my trusty needle, and attack egos.

I learn from others. Unlike social media where rank "disinformation" rules the Tweets (whatever). If I post something and it's challenged, i have to confront it, and rebuttal or change my opinions..It's much more interactive and challenging then just passively watching da newz or the cesspool of social media

Find much info here beyond the daily fights.

Keeps us informed. Wish more in US would also.

The Net is a WEB OF LIES

Well said.

I made the switch in about 2006. I used to be one of the pro-aborts -- I mean, I worked with and assisted a doctor who slaughtered unborn babies for money! I used to argue the pro-abort POV hotly.

Then I started seeing how deluded I'd been and started changing. I used to concentrate primarily on talking with the pro-aborts, but what really got me thinking more about the left cultists is seeing how viciously they hate President Trump. And very few of the die-hard Trump haters have a thing to teach anyone. They scream and curse and threaten, and not much else.

They sometimes provide a laugh, and that's better than TV.

My reason for posting here is just to engage with others on politics and other topics. Seeking out and engaging with like minded people is a healthy way to spend time .
Ditto, but I find the trolls on here tend to waste more of my time than I like, but only myself to blame for that. I have trouble just letting the blatant misinformation go.

Pretty much shitposting and mocking progtards.

Within the "rules" of course...

The only sane place here is the FZ.

I just like to know what people truly think about various divisive issues.

The great thing about the internet is people get to, for the most part, truly express themselves anonymously. They wouldn’t talk or act the way they do in public, but here we see it all - the good, the bad, and the ugly.

That’s part of what got me musing about this all. If any liberal who harbors hatred of Trump could clearly and calmly address the ā€œreasonsā€ for it (point by point) WITHOUT saying the same stagnant lines about ā€œtrumpanzeesā€ and similar crap, they could (theoretically) keep me reading.

Do that, and there’s a chance of succeeding on the merits. Once you start labeling your opponents as ā€œMAGAtsā€ etc., you’ve shut down your audience (and you’ve lost any chance at being at all persuasive).

By the way, I throw out terms like ā€œlibtardsā€ when I’m disgusted with the silliness of their shabby arguments.

But the discussions worth having are those that rise above this crap.

Me too. That’s why I still make some use of the ā€œignoreā€ function.

Maturity is situational. As is immaturity.

This Forum is a good place for me to vent my political opinions. It is also a place to learn what others (including those who don't agree with me) think about politics and even life in general. Here, there also can be found links to articles used to support opinions I may or may not agree with. Either way, it is a reason for me to read more news than I otherwise would have read. I feel more informed being here than not.

And that is why you switched parties--- because you were inwardly already a latent conservative, you just didn't quite know it yet. Otherwise, you wouldn't have challenged your own beliefs and thinking.

I changed to being a republican long ago because the more I sifted and weighed by own observations, the more discrepancies I found with democrats and the more sense conservatism made.

You see, that is the whole leftist thing--- they never do that. You will never find a leftist/progressive who challenges and tests their views and opinions against external and independent modalities. Democrats today survive only by NOT challenging nor testing their views, they actively seek to only reinforce them, and democrat handlers are careful to warn other democrats away from examining their positions too closely.

Exactly. This place is like a point of departure for doing some research. Read a worthwhile link. Then, commence to digging. Find some of the original material undergirding the links.

(Analog: I don’t place a ton of faith in anything written in Wikipedia. Nonetheless, it too can serve as a point of departure for some research on the topics.)

And very few of the die-hard Trump haters have a thing to teach anyone.

How can they? If you ask any of them to defend their anti-Trump position, they never can, and the more they try, the more absurd and ridiculous they become because all they are really doing is regurgitating unchallenged bullcrap fed to them which they then try to feed unchallenged to others.

In quick order, they are right back to: orange man bad, fat, eats McDonalds, golfs, plus, he's a meanie.

I know this might sound simplistic but, leftists do not think, they only go by feelings, inward reactions. And that is how you turned conservative--- your higher brain functions took hold and you began to step back from these views you were fed and began to critically examine them from an independent 3rd party POV and saw that they simply did not hold water.

Every TDSer I have queried as to why they hate Trump NEVER has a cogent answer. The other day I was asking an acquaintance (who voted for Kamala) to discuss with me just one lie Trump has told that we can discuss. All I got was Democrat talking points, nothing specific. He did not want to actually discuss the reason he hates Trump so much either.

I'm sure, because they really don't know. All they have are the talking points fed them. As to why they hate Trump, it is a feeling, a feeling they have been trained to carry, and feelings need not carry a reason because there is no thought behind them.

Which brings us to why they promote the Trump, cult thing. Calling Trump supporters a "cult" is simply the Left's way of discrediting and dismissing the entire success of Trump as "it's not us, it is them."

By making us a "cult," the Left can sit back and claim: "Hey, we tried, but when you are combating a huge CULT like this, what can you do?"

It absolves them of responsibility and blame for losing elections. You see, we are just too brainwashed by Trump to see what a better choice they and Kamala offered.

But they will begin to wake up next election if they lose big in the midterms, too.

The Democrats are ruled by a Marxist cult that has invaded their party. We know this because Marxists always try to tear down a society's foundation by giving new meanings to words, (such as gender) and fomenting hatred toward anything traditional (like their hatred of Trump's policies). Also, we know Marxists falsely blame everyone else with the bad shit that they themselves do, like calling supporting traditional American morals and values a 'cult.'

That's very well said! If they weren't so childishly defensive and would have an adult conversation, it would be great. The ones who are most puerile have branded their every post as being so, so I simply scroll past or give them a "fake news" click, a very labor-saving device for telling them that we recognize the fact that they are lying, trolling, uninformed of misinformed.
