Motorist in North Carolina tells 911: 'I just had a bald eagle drop a cat through my windshield'

I think it is rational to assume it was a large bird of pray. Hawks are abundant, but eagles still are not. I am assuming a positive ID since she was so specific.
In My region of PA, we have three pairs of American Bald Eagles. I only had an occasion once this year to see one, and the other two haven't been seen since last year, so they may have moved to another territory.

A Bald Eagle once dived down into the highway ditch across from our house and carried something cat or rabbit sized up with it. You could see the little paws dangling as he got higher.

Wish they would get the neighbors annoying little dogs.

Seen a few over the years while on the boat hit the water and carry off a pretty good sized fish too.
Sucks when they have better luck than me fishing.

I don’t think anyone has expressed any empathy for the poor bird that lost its dinner.
Well, we don't know how the cat looked before the bird found it. The bird could've only just been getting rid of whatever it didn't want in the first place. Obviously, the head was still intact, or the driver never would've known what kind of animal it was.

God bless you and the driver always!!!

Holly

The bird would have had to drop the cat from pretty high up for it to smash through a windshield. So how did the driver identify the bird as an eagle? Was she cruising down the twisty-turny roads of the Smoky Mountains while looking straight up in the sky? Or, after having the unfortunate feline violently crash through her window, she immediately turned her attention to the sky and managed to ID the high flying bird?
Her speed would have everything to with the impact.
