You have to deal with the gangs.....and other criminals. And that is the problem. you have deep problems that create gang members the single biggest factor is generations of single mothers having children.

That is a hard one not easily dealt with.

On a quick fix.....you have to start punishing gun criminals.....obama has reduced gun convictions by 33%. Chicago and other major cities do not prosecute criminals caught with guns.....they are back on the streets in a revolving door policy. Our former police commissioner complained that prosecutors and judges were not convicting felons on gun possession charges and in a short time these same criminals would end up killing people with guns.

The first step, the easy step.....prosecute felons in possession of guns to the full extent of the law, and then get the legislatures to increase sentences.

Everyone talks about Japan....they lower the gun crime rate among their criminals by convicting them if they are caught with guns....they also target gang leadership...if a minion of a crime boss gets caught with a gun or using a gun they fine the crime boss heavily and also get him on conspiracy charges.......

So the first step is lock up felons caught with guns.....and that is a big part of controlling this. That way you are actually targeting the people who use guns to commit crimes, the criminals murdering people with guns.

The best way is to put felons in prison when they are caught with guns.......look up the stories.....felons who should be put in prison for years for simple possession of a gun are released quickly and with short sentences.

I have posted numerous stories of criminals with prior felonies, caught with guns in the commission of crimes who were released in under 2 years who went on to murder people with guns.

Increase the sentences for convicted felons with guns.......and then actually prosecute them.

If you do a traffic stop, and catch a felon with a gun.....7 years. Pretty soon you will reduce the practice of carrying guns for felons......that is how New York did it...stop and frisk....but they stopped that and now their gun murder rate is going back up.

If you commit a crime with a gun, bank robbery, rape, home invasion.....10 years added because of the gun.

If you use a semi auto pistol with a magazine to commit any of the above....10 years added to your sentence because of the magazine.

That is 20 years.....see how fast the criminals start using knives and baseball bats. And you haven't targeted normal gun owners...only people who use the guns to commit crimes.

Of course, the problem will be gangs will start having even more 15 year olds shooting people....but you have to start somewhere......
