Gay marriage is a secular issue. The government made every marriage a secular matter when it started handing out cash and prizes to marriages.

So this "just don't call it marriage" crap is the language of a very confused person. This is not about your religion. If you didn't want government involved in marriage or deciding what is a marriage, you have had a really, really, really long time to stop it before now. But you have been enjoying all those special privileges from the government, haven't you. Ayup.

Now that others are asking to share in the same special privileges you have been receiving from the government all this time, suddenly it's all wrong for them to receive those privileges! And all because you hate fags.

True about the secular part but those special privileges are legal protections which came about through financial and custodial matters over time. If we really wanted government entirely out of the marriage institution, people need to stop dying and getting divorced.

I have news for you: the Supreme Court is going to rule on whether to extend benefits to gay couples, taxation, inheritance, power of attorney, etc. (all the things you said you support) AFTER the gay couple gets MARRIED by whichever church wants to perform the ceremony. If you don't like the fact that your church marries gay couples, then go find a church which doesn't. The government doesnt give a shit what you want to call it.

It has never been about being able to be with whomever you want to be with... it has been about forcing others to recognize, accept, etc... hence why when 'civil union' status is proposed, the screams come from the rafters that it is not enough... FORCED acceptance... it has been answered.. you just do not happen to like the answer... if someone is forced to accept and recognize the 'status' and forced to give benefit for it, forced to not discriminate upon it as they can with other choices others make, it is FORCED ACCEPTANCE
