The purpose of carrying a concealed firearm is to keep it concealed, not show it off like a reckless, irresponsible teenager.

Many countries are not drowning in guns like we are here and they have a much lower death by firearms rate as our rate continues to climb! People do survive without guns in free countries. If an assailant knocks on your door and sticks a gun in your face when you open it are you going to tell them "Hold on while I get my gun"? A gun only works in your favor if you see them before they see you? We have the Military Reserves,The National Guard, and about 3 million on active duty. We have armed law enforcement people all over the place. What is an armed citizenry going to protect us from other than each other? If there was an armed insurrection or war against the Government it would be put down in a New York Minute by the military here! They are way more equipped and prepared to fight a modern war than all of the armed citizens here put together! Armed citizens do not have an air force or any of the logistics to engage in warfare against anybody! When all there was was Flintlock Muzzle Loading rifles, Pistols, Shotguns, and Muzzle loading Cannons we could fight a war against the Government here. Now it is out of the question! Supplying ammunition, gun parts and repair, for all of the different guns with all of the different caliber ammunition required would, in an of itself make it impossible for our armed citizenry to engage in any warfare other than a very short one!
On average, armed civilians save an average of 2,191 lives each day with their weapons. That's 799,715 lives a year, saved by civilians with guns....and the criminals aren't going to give up their guns.
Brazil is presently the murder capitol of the world and the law-abiding Brazilians have been asking their government to allow them to have their guns back. They are being gunned down by the criminals.....who as would be expected.....didn't turn in their guns.
When you get into a situation where you need the police.....YOU are the first responder. They aren't going to get their for at the minimum of seven to ten minutes, longer if you live further out.
As for the military better equipped to fight a modern war......apparently, you've been in a coma for the last 17 years. Our grand military, with foreign militaries assisting, haven't been able to conquer a bunch of illiterate farmers in Afghanistan, armed only with AK-47's, Improvised Explosive Devices and some RPG's. The great US and coalition military arsenal.....Jet fighters, howitzers, drones, fully automatic weapons (actual assault weapons, not store bought semi-automatic weapons) thousands of crack troops armed with the latest equipment, even night-vision goggles, yet the Afghani farmers still can't be beaten. What is now being considered is peace talks.
So, millions of civilians armed, even with semi-automatic weapons can make a difference and it is MILLIONS, not just a few handfuls.
Then there's the simple fact that there are between 80 to 100 million firearms owners and of the gun owners, there is a conservative figure of about 17.5 million semi-automatic rifles owned by civilians., compared with only tens of thousands of fighters in Afghanistan with Pakistani radicals assisting, that's an imposing number of potential fighters.
Now, there are about 15 national pro-gun organizations with varying numbers of members and each state has one or more statewide pro-gun organizations. These are people who "firmly" believe in their right to bear arms and if the left really gets to pushing for the abolishment of the Second Amendment and gun confiscation, there will come a point where a fair, if not significant number of those 80 to 100 million gun owners, will say....NO MORE! They, like myself (I've put a career in the military because I believe in that Constitution and the freedom of speech and the right to bear arms), will not tolerate the confiscation and will rise up against the action, violently. If you think that the ongoing 17 year war against Islamic farmers in Afghanistan was annoying, think how actual fighting in our streets with determined, educated fighters will go and, no doubt, elements of the military will split off, as many of them own their own weapons and wouldn't want them confiscated.
I'm up for the fight and if I lose my life in it, so be it. I've lived a full life and my wife is dead and kids grown and gone, so I've got nothing to lose.
