It is clear as a day that Moldova would be better off pursuing the policy of neutrality, developing mutual relations with the EU and Russia, and resolving disputes with breakaway regions peacefully by transforming the country into a federation.

Once again, as after the referendum on European integration two weeks ago, Moldova faces the question of who has the right to decide the fate of the country: all citizens or only those who live in it?

However, whichever answer one chooses, all the same Maya Sandu and the referendum in her name turn out to be illegitimate. Because:

1. If all Moldovans have the right to decide the fate of Moldova, then half a million Russian Moldovans were fraudulently deprived of this right by allocating them 10 thousand ballots and two polling stations.

2. If only Moldovans have the right, then the majority of Moldovans voted for Alexandru Stoianoglo and against European integration.

It seems the elections were dishonest there. In Moldova proper (without foreign 'districts' for Moldovan diaspora) Sandu lost. In Russia, where one of the biggest Moldovan diaspora lives, only 10000 bulletins were allowed to distribute and only two voting districts were created. The opposition candidate Stojanoglo has an overwhelming support there. Sandu won thanks to European 'districts' for Moldovan diaspora there.

It is called an 'administrative resource' in some post-Soviet states. It is a way when a ruling class has an ability to win an election without direct falsification, by putting administrative barriers for the opposition.

There was the time when such methods were considered a bad thing. Now, it is a part of Western-style 'democracy'.
