By the law, he had to be returned to his father and not eligible for sanctuary here in the US because he did not make it to land. It was one unfortunate occurrence when the Democrats actually followed the law. Should not be included in the discussion.

I voted for a black Democrat for re-election as sheriff in my metro government in FL because he was the only real law and order candidate in the race and I believed we was the better man for the job. When he made patrols with his deputies he always stopped in at my wife's business to see if she had any concerns. He was only a Democrat because Republicans would not support a black man in those days. He won easily so my vote didn't matter.
