If you have a huge mouth, usually taking in large amounts of water sifting krill as your main food, I guess a 12 ft kayak with a man in it, doesn't go down well. Lucky guy.

Reminds me of a joke

So, this girl in science class was being lectured by a teacher about what whales eat and how much they eat, after which, the girl raised her hand and said, "The Bible says a whale once swallowed Jonah, and later spat him out." The teacher chided the child saying, "Sorry child, there is scientifically no possible way a whale could swallow an entire human being. The little girl then sank back into her chair red faced and said nothing for a good 20 minutes, but then got her courage up again and interrupted the teacher saying, "But the Bible said it happened and we all believe he went to heaven afterwards where we can ask him all about it." The teacher then gave an evil smirk again, waiting for the kill, and said, "And what makes you think Jonah went to heaven? Maybe he went to hell." The girl then retorted, "Then you can ask him about it."

Humpback whales are incapable of swallowing a human, so the fact he got sucked in was an accident.
