Mike Rowe slams Dem's call for $30 minimum wage: 'Why not $50?'...Socialist candidate: $15 minimum wage is an antiquated demand. It should be $30/hour

The way to square this is recognizing that minimum wage is an insufficient tool alone - a single parent supporting a kid should absolutely have a *social wage* of ~$30/hr - but no reason they should rely entirely on employers for that, also need child allowance, childcare, etc

Things like a "Social wage" just encourage more people to not be responsible for their actions.

Subsidizing things gets you more of said things, not less.

Mike Rowe is no intellectual. It's no surprise that the tired old slippery slope argument is the best he has.

$30.00???

Even in Wa., as liberal as it is, I don't think that would fly.
Me neither. But aiming high to start is a good idea. Of course, the slippery slope arguments will rain down as they always have, no matter the number proposed. That's why happy meals are $50 now, dontcha know.

Well then I'll need a raise to 78 dollars an hour then. If some dipshit can make 30 an hour stocking shelves at Walmart why would I keep busting my ass to make 35 an hour?

And sure, make minimum wage 30 dollars an hour and in less than 6 months after it happens we will be paying 19 dollars for a box of cereal and a happy meal will be 21 dollars and we will be right back in the same spot again.

If you want more money they you need to work for it, not work some shitty 0 experience job a 16 year old is eligible for like working at Starbucks. If you want a good living wage you need to work for it and earn promotions, get experience, go to school, just show some ambition.

Why not have the government step in set the price of everything? Such as a loaf of bread is now ten cents. Every gallon of gas is fifty cents. A house can only cost ten thousand dollars. Then set every persons wage at eight hundred dollars a month. No matter who you are no matter what you do. The most or least you can make is eight hundred.
We all need that to live right? We all need government to tell everyone what to Get paid what to pay.
For those who do not understand this is sarcasm.

I don't know why more politicians don't campaign on promises to lower the minimum wage to like 3 bucks or something..... and then talk about boot-straps and how it was in the good ol' days.....it would be a winning campaign slogan too....

Good luck getting people to agree on this issue.

Most people cannot even agree if this falls under state or federal purview…

Yeah, what could possibly go wrong paying kids $60,000 /yr to scoop ice cream?

Democrats are getting dumber by the day.

Gotta buy votes somehow
That doesn't work, or we'd be bitching about President Yang and the promise of free money to the vast number of college students and graduate couldn't float Warren.
This thread, primarily on minimum wage and somebody actually proposing $30 Bucks, does begs the question of, "What the hell are they teaching in economics, these days" and "Don't perspective politicians even read the newspaper, anymore"?

I did OK in econ back in the Keynesian days. I look at middle and lower class income mostly stagnant for the last 25-40 years, see the pandemic free money and jump in wages (for the first time this century) to coax people back into the job market, look at the sudden rise in inflation, and say, "Yep." "Figures."
