Former Vice President Mike Pence is taking the gloves off, launching a $3 million ad campaign to target Kamala Harris’s economic policies in swing states like Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Montana.

Through his conservative advocacy group, Advancing American Freedom, Pence aims to drive home one point: Harris’s proposed tax hikes will be a disaster for the American economy.

These ads don’t hold back, calling attention to the benefits of the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act that Pence helped enact alongside President Trump.

In one ad, AnnMarie Nelms, a restaurant owner from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, talks about how the Republican tax cuts fueled an economic boom in her area. “If they raise our taxes, a lot of the small-business owners that I know won’t make it more than a year,” she warns. Nelms doesn’t mince words about her concerns with Harris’s plan to “ram through the largest tax increase in American history.”

The ads also take aim at Democratic Senators in key battleground states.

For example, they go after Senator Bob Casey of Pennsylvania and Senator Jon Tester of Montana, both of whom voted against the 2017 tax cuts. Liane Taylor, a real estate broker from Montana, echoes the sentiments of small-business owners across the country, pointing out that “rent and mortgage rates were affordable” before the current administration took over.

She argues that the tax cuts were a boon for middle-class Americans and that raising taxes now would be a huge setback.

This merits a bump.

What many economists who live in their own bubble don't ever take into consideration is how economic policy affects the choices and behavior of the people. For instance GHWB sabotaged his own re-election when he broke his 'no new taxes' pledge and agreed to tax the toys of the very rich: private boats, planes, high end jewelry etc. The deal was for every dollar of new taxes, the Democrats would cut the budget by a dollar.


Well we didn't get the budget cuts but those taxes caused the rich to buy elsewhere. The private plane and especially the boat building industries were devastated costing tens of thousands of jobs. The high end jewelry industry moved off shore to places like Grand Cayman. Treasury receipts from the taxes ultimately were minimal and the overall economy took a beating.

Compare that to Trump policies in his previous administration that created a booming economy putting significant money in the bank accounts of pretty much all demographics, producing record low unemployment in pretty much all demographics all with very low inflation. Businesses stopped moving out of the country and many were returning with their jobs and capital, etc. People forced into part time jobs with few or no benefits in the Obama era were able to get good paying full time jobs with benefits again.

And debt ratio to GDP was quite good, far better than the Obama years.

Biden/Harris have benefitted from that economic policy that will continue through 2025 and are scheduled to mostly end if not renewed. Biden and Harris are both on the record that they do not intend to renew them.
