Hard-right candidate George Simion emerged as the clear victor as Romanians cast their votes Sunday in a closely watched presidential election.

He will now face centrist Bucharest mayor Nicușor Dan in a runoff on May 18 that will determine whether Romania becomes the latest EU country to lurch dramatically to the right.
