The media’s behavior with respect to Sarah Palin has been terrible and unbelievably unfair with respect to the nonsense they focus on with respect to Palin, the amount of time they donate to the question whether or not she is qualified to be VP and the overall amount of time they focus on her compared with the presidential candidates themselves and the other important issues involved in this race. The media really needs to change its direction on the Palin issue in the last eleven days of this election because the stakes in this election are too big the American people really need to be focusing on the Presidential candidates and determining which one will better be able to lead the nation on the enormous challenges facing the American people at this time.

All this focus on Sarah Palin spending $150,000 dollars of McCain’s campaign funds on clothes is utter nonsense. Listen, Palin was just offered and made the VP candidate at the end of August of this year and like most outsiders from Washington she is not well versed in policy on all national issues and with respect to John McCain’s campaign positions and how to compete in a national presidential campaign, she needs to spend her time and fairly so on getting up to speed in these areas not on worrying about her wardrobe. Secondly, Sarah has some unique challenges when it comes to how to dress appropriately that warrants cutting her some slack and understanding in this area given she was only really thrust in to the presidential race in August. Looking at pictures of Palin in her youth that came out in the media when Palin was initially chosen as the Republican VP nominee Palin was obviously a very good looking women in her youth and it appears she aged pretty well and it is clear from the way she speaks, the words and phrases she uses and her accent, that she is to put it nicely not a big city girl. So to put it a little clearer Palin has the dilemma when it comes to clothes of down playing her beauty so people aren’t focusing on her looks but rather on her message (and taking her seriously) and not giving the impression she is a low class hick which could happen if she wasn’t careful in choosing her attire. When Hillary Clinton was running her Presidential campaign she once joked of the high number of pant suits she wore and one media outlet showed numerous pictures of Clinton in different colored pant suits. Based on the present character of the media, if Sarah Palin wore those exact style and color pant suits that Clinton wore as often as Clinton did during her campaign run, the media would probably be criticizing Palin for that, probably saying something like she is trying to use her great figure to gain votes.

What is extremely and without question unfair is the focus on whether Palin is suitable to be one heartbeat away from being President and not the equal attention on whether or not Joe Biden is suitable to be one heartbeat away from being President. Because if one wants to provide an optimal analysis, Palin is dramatically more suitable than Biden to be next in line to be President, she is in a whole league above Biden and that is not to say that she is so good but rather Biden is so bad. Biden does not have reliable good judgment, he is prone to make stupid decisions and that is a very dangerous quality to have and be in the position of President of the United States where your decisions readily have the potential to significantly affect tens if not hundreds of millions of peoples’ lives. There is no distortion in this analysis, Biden is a great human being, a really likeable person and in fact a really bright guy but he has this track record of making bad judgments whether it be his idea to split Iraq in three parts, plagiarism, statements of a nature of something like 7-Eleven stores are inundated with people of India ethnic background, etc.; Biden is a great senator because in part he has many great ideas but also because he has fifty plus other Senators that he works with to check his bad ideas, as President he won’t have that check. What is unbelievably and indescribably unfair is that the media isn’t going over Joe Biden long track record as a Senator and especially his many public statements that demonstrate compelling clearly that Biden has a propensity for making bad and stupid decisions. The other alternative the media could choose instead of starting to try to be fair on the VP coverage issue to the Republican campaign is to stop the overall amount of attention it is focusing on VP topics and focus on the Presidential candidates and the issues facing the nation because these subjects really matter to the American people these are the relevant subjects.
