If you want to talk about a presidential candidate's mental decline, simply show where they were lucid to begin with, then show a pattern of increasing mental issues. Quid Pro Joe is a classic example. When he began his term in office, he could sometimes put together enough coherent sentences that most people could figure out what he was saying without "helpful interpreters" inserting what they wished he had said, but by the end of it, the rare times he could do that were celebrated as if a 5-year-old managed to color inside the lines.

They could not do so before because Quid Pro Joe's decline was so acute and so obvious that it could no longer be ignored, and if they went after TRUMP!, everyone would simply point out how they ignored Joe's obvious decline.
