And yet there are some well-meaning African Americans and Caucasian Americans who insist that there can be harmony between the two ethnicities (as currently portrayed in TV commercials) if only this step and if only that step were taken.

When, oh when, will they wake up and smell the coffee?

As Abraham Lincoln observed (before he became President), both groups would be much happier if they lived separate lives. He suggested that one of them move to the islands in the Caribbean. (He may have later changed his opinion.) He felt that both groups were simply incomptable.

Well, we know neither group is going anywhere.

So time will decide the issue.

By the middle of the next century, Caucasians will be a small minority in this country.

In the meanwhile, people on both sides will yell and scream. Nothing will really improve.

What triggered the massacre?​

On May 31, 1921, Dick Rowland, a 19-year old Black shoeshiner, tripped and fell in an elevator and his hand accidentally caught the shoulder of Sarah Page, a white 17-year-old operator. Page screamed and Rowland was seen running away.
Police were summoned but Page refused to press charges. However, by that afternoon, there was already talks of lynching Rowland on the streets of white Tulsa. The tension then escalated after the white newspaper Tulsa Tribune ran a front-page story entitled “Nab Negro for Attacking Girl In Elevator,” which accused Rowland of stalking, assault and rape.

You cannot justify wholesale murder of innocent people and destruction of a large neighborhood full of homes and businesses based on some story about an alleged rape and the actions of a few people who went to the jail to free the "rapist," even if this story was true, which I seriously doubt.

Recently, hundreds of thousands of people have marched peacefully, carrying signs and chanting.about police treatment of people of color. This was not a "lynch mob."

We don't know whether the people who were killed by cops were criminals who were caught red-handed, nor do we know whether their killing was justified. These marchers were there to demand a full investigation, answers, and punishment for any wrongdoing. We also don't know whether the people who looted and set fires were there to support this cause or whether they were simply opportunists.

No one was raped. According to the white girl's testimony, a black shoe shine boy go on the elevator and grabbed her arm, causing her to scream.

The boy was arrested the next morning. The only reason the black "mob" showed up was to offer to help keep the courthouse secure from the mob of white men demanding that the shoe shine boy be released to them for a lynching. The sheriff refused their help and they left.

The actual shooting started around 10pm, when 75 black men showed back up and were met by 1,500 or so white men. The black men retreated to Greenwood district (the black part of town) and the white mob followed. The Greenwood district was the most prosperous black business area in the country. Much of it was burned or destroyed.

It was two mobs who met up at the courthouse. A black mob of about 75 men, and a white mob that numbered in the range of 1,500. The black men ended up retreating to the Greenwood District, which was the black section of Tulsa. The whites followed. They looted, burned and murdered.
