Here we have one of the most famous failures in military history trying to tell us what we are doing wrong in Iraq.

On top of that you should find the message board hilarious. here we have libs yelling how McNamara was "An honest Republican" and how that should cause us problems. however, they neglect the obvious fact that McNamara was Defense Secretary under Kennedy and Johnson and is a self proclaimed liberal.

But that doesnt matter. What matters is another Democrat is critical of Bush. We are in sooooooo much trouble a Democrat disagrees. booo hooo.

Yeah that is seriously what they were saying. And they were acting like McNamara's statements somehow destroyed Republican positions on Iraq. its actually kinda sad.

democrat and liberal are not synonymous.


do I have to explain to grown adults that you can be a fiscal conservative and a social liberal, or a fiscal liberal and a social conservative and belong to either party? that a good politician will be liberal on some issues and conservative on others depending on #1 what will gain him the most support and #2 what the most effective strategy for solving an actual problem is.

Both parties exploit ignorant voters by using those terms incorrectly.




Also, I've seen very few democrats or republicans say anything positive about mcnamara. Some people seem to just respect him out of a sense that they "should." But probably can't find any good reason. McNamara is probably more to blame for the escelation and beaurocratic failures in administrating the vietnam war then any other individual.

Bush Sr and Stormin Norman have criticized unilatteral action in Iraq since they were the biggest american advocates of world democracy and establishing legal precedents in the post-cold-war globalized world. Ever seen Bush Sr speak? He never disagrees with his son but his views are in direct opposition.

To occupy Iraq would instantly shatter our coalition, turning the whole Arab world against us and make a broken tyrant into a latter-day hero ... assigning young soldiers to a fruitless hunt for a securely entrenched dictator and condemning them to fight in what would be an un-winnable urban guerilla war. They really don't want you to see it but high level republicans are split between neo-conservativism (george bush jr, dick cheny, donald rumsfeld) and neo-liberalism (george bush sr, colin powell, ronald reagan). Don't be fooled by the names though, both are free market approaches to globalization.

I just read a site that compared jefferson with reagan and claimed they were neoconservatives and said chomsky and marx were neo liberals.

We are talking different times here. In 92 we only had a mandate to take Saddam out of Kuwait. The Coalition, indeed, would have shattered if we took the next step in taking him out.
This time we created a Coalition to specifically go in and take the man out. Kind of hard to split the coalition when that was the entire purpose of the coalition.
