Spoofs, yes, comedy, yes as well. But the Matt Helm character deserved the same treatment that Sean Connery, Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig gave James Bond. Helm was a genuine tough guy, an average American who got the job done, even when it was distasteful.

Nobody would have "bought" it back then as a serious movie, because of Sean Connery being SO popular as Bond.

But, they are thinking about making a new Matt Helm movie........
