Not only was it effective in destroying these terrorists, but it also has a devastating psychological effect against others who might be hiding in such tunnels and caves. Missions accomplished.

U.S. 'mother of all bombs' killed 94

The number of militants killed in an attack by the largest non-nuclear weapon ever used in combat by the U.S. military has risen to 94, an Afghan official said Saturday.

Ataullah Khogyani, spokesman for the provincial governor in Nangarhar, said the number of dead from the group Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) was up from the 36 reported a day earlier. A ministry of defence official had said Friday the number of dead could rise as officials assessed the bomb site in Achin district.

"Fortunately there is no report of civilians being killed in the attack," Khogyani said.

The increased death toll in Nangarhar was announced as officials in southern Helmand province reported at least 11 civilians were killed and one wounded in two roadside bomb blasts overnight.

The U.S. attack on a tunnel complex in remote eastern Nangarhar province near the Pakistan border killed at least four ISIS group leaders, Khogyani said. He said a clearance operation to assess the site of the attack was continuing.

The strike using the Massive Ordnance Air Blast bomb, or MOAB, was carried out Thursday against an ISIS tunnel complex carved into the mountains that Afghan forces had tried to assault repeatedly in recent weeks in fierce fighting in Nangarhar province.

Support from current president but not past
Former Afghan president Hamid Karzai on Saturday criticized both the Afghan and U.S. governments for the attack in Nangarhar. Addressing a gathering in capital Kabul, Karzai said that allowing the U.S. to carry out the bombing was "a national treason" and an insult to Afghanistan.

Current President Ashraf Ghani's office said Friday there was "close co-ordination" between the U.S. military and the Afghan government on the operation, and they were careful to prevent any civilian casualties.

The U.S. estimates 600-800 IS fighters are in Afghanistan, mostly in Nangarhar. The U.S. has concentrated on fighting them while also supporting Afghan forces against the Taliban. The U.S. has more than 8,000 US troops in Afghanistan, training local forces and conducting counterterrorism operations.

When Trump kicks butt, he does it with style...

MOAB... impressive.

MOAB... impressive.

Bush could have used it.

Obama could have used it.

Surprised it was as effective as it was, covered with spider webs and dust like it must have been

Yes, they could have used it...

But they did not, so there goes. It seems as though even you were baffled by the choice, and then surprised the undoubted effectiveness.

Not surprised by either...

only surprised it took so long to make use of it.

If a strong wind were blowing from west to east, the bomb would have ended up in Pakistan.

94 killed with one bomb, all militants and no civilians. Good job, Trump! Make America great again? Fuck you're going to make Afghanistan great again, 94 bloody mangled ragheads at a time.

Nope. Satellite-based guidance system.

Any presidentcould have done it, but Trump decided to trust the military to do its job.

Hes beginning to remind me of Reagan. Reagan understood how to delegate.

If there were a technical glitch, the bomb would have landed in Pakistan.

They are improving. They have learned to ride a motorbike. In due time, they may learn to pilot a plane.

When I heard about that MOAB, For the first time I was proud of my country. 17 years of pussy footing around in Afghanistan had me convinced "this is how USA leaders do war", I accepted it.
Maybe not? Maybe we can finally go on Offense and kill the enemy and get out? 17 years? The USA is only 200 years old, come on. Either hit them or get out!
