The Manhattan district attorney will stop prosecuting prostitution and unlicensed massage cases — and is tossing thousands of warrants dating as far back as 1975.
DA Cyrus Vance Jr. appeared virtually Wednesday in Manhattan Criminal Court to ask Judge Charlotte Davidson to vacate 5,994 bench warrants and dismiss the underlying charges of prostitution, unlicensed massage and loitering for the purpose of prostitution.
The motion was granted and the cases dating back to 1975 were dropped.
For years, the Manhattan DA has offered people facing these charges services and programs.
“Now, we will decline to prosecute these arrests outright, providing services and support solely on a voluntary basis,” said Vance, who added that his office is the first in the state to take this step.

Earlier this year, the state legislature struck the controversial statute from its books.
In response, the Brooklyn, Queens and Bronx DAs moved to vacate bench warrants stemming from this charge and dismiss all open cases.
Most of the city’s DAs had stopped prosecuting the crime years before it was repealed.
A spokesman for Richmond County DA Michael McMahon previously told The Post his office would follow suit.

Comment:
Prostitution is now de facto legal now in New York. The doors are wide open to the increase of Prosititition STD's and HIV.
New York City and it's five boroughs have now offically become an open city to rival Amsterdam, Bangkok.
DeBlasio has closed the circle. Homeless rising, people allowed to urinate and defecate openly in the streets, addicts shooting up on the streets. What more can any New York dweller want?
Unfortunately, the citizens may be unable to vote themselves out of this problem because the judiciary and legislative branches have proven to be apathetic about vote fraud and Democrats run both the city and State.

The solution is licensing and regulation.
It doesn't matter. Only a portion of prostitution can be licensed and regulated. The proposal of failure to prosecute does neither.
You are implying free market Capitalism doesn't work?

It works very well. Which is why licensing and regulation of prostitution is only partly successful.

Licensing and regulation is not any form of free market capitalism.

If two consenting adults want to exchange money for sex how is that any of the government's business?

That's all well and good until the money ends up in the "Pimps" pocket. That has enslaved the young girl or boy and addicted them to drugs.

Why only a portion?
Because there are acts of prostitution that are so heinous they could never, should never be legalized. There are also prostitutes that are merely sex workers of opportunity. The secretary that needs to make the rent. The waitress who has her eye on an expensive dress she could not live without. The boyfriend who can't get any more credit at his drug dealers. None of these women are sex workers yet they will perform acts of sex for payment, when they need it. They will not be regulated and will certainly not go through the bother of a license.

To replace all the jobs that New York is losing due to the pandemic as well as their high taxes, remote offices, etc., legalizing the prostitutorial arts makes a lot of sense. Attracting hundreds of thousands of people from around the world to live in the Big Apple as Hoes and Pimps will keep the city buzzing and keep it as a destination.

Johns from across the nation will cum to NYC for their XXX rated vacays.

Do you know about Juarez? They make a fortune off of canned hunts. Men come from around the world to hunt in the desert around Juarez. They hunt women, prostitutes. Sometimes just a captive. But someone might look for her. No one looks for prostitutes. They are hunted to death. Usually with high powered cross bows.

With the number of animals being taken across the border there will be no shortage of Exotics to make New York a True Park of the depraved. Hunting in Central Park.

Decriminalizing prostitution does not make sex trafficking legal. I live in Nevada. We have legal brothels all over the state outside of Clark County.

I sometimes wonder how you Law and Order types manage to tie your shoes.

Prostitution was a Class B misdemeanor. Penalty. The maximum penalty was no more than three months in jail and or a $500 fine. Anyone want to guess how often the accused was sentenced to the maximum? I’ll bet about one time out of fifty. I’ll further guess that most sentences were time served and a fine.

So the idea that legalizing it is akin to making murder legal is asinine. Of course the law and order drones are always asinine. They act as if life sentences for traffic violations is too soft.

So what will be the result? A huge increase in prostitution? Nah. Any cops assigned to Vice will be reassigned to other divisions. So more people will be looking into Murder, Robbery, and Mayhem. How awful.

For those of you outraged by this. Change your undies and get a life.

Oddly, I was born in Williamsburg Brooklyn, went to Bushwick H.S, ans St. John's Univ., and NYU. I've lived most of my life in Brooklyn and Queens and after nearly 5 years of retirement moved from the City.
My last home in Queens was in Flushing, where I could watch the fireworks from Shea Stadium.

Actually she was a fashion model. Barack Obama's mommie on the other hand, was a real whore. Ann Dunham was her name and she posed for porn pictures. Imagine how embarrassed Obama felt about his own mommie posing for porn? It's no wonder the guy was so fucked in the head.
