This is actually a good idea, probably the first one he's had. This has been a huge complaint from tourists here in Las Vegas. They'll book a "deal" for $50 a night at a hotel and then when they check out find out they're actually paying $90 night due to added on hospitality fees, facility fees, or entertainment fees, whatever they choose to call them, for the amenities offered at the hotel that may not have even used.

How many of those fees are applied by the governments in question?

Local taxes for sure, but the point is that people will know up front exactly what they are paying without the sticker shock upon checkout.

I must agree with this too. Several years ago, after leaving a hotel in Hawaii, the hotel tried to charge me for junk fees after checking out. I knew what the hotel was up to already. Upon leaving, I placed a lock on my credit card immediately. Surely enough, the charge was declined.

I would advise those who rent a car to lock their card immediately after returning the vehicle. Rental companies can earn extra cash by claiming there's a scratch or dent on the vehicle afterward.

Maybe it's just because I know how things work, but I automatically estimate what those would be when I book, so this law to me is "meh"

If we are going to start regulating business by fiat, then we should start by requiring transparency in medical services pricing. Hotel fees are small potatoes.

I would say the same to restaurants.

In other words, you can effectively deal with it WITHOUT the government intervening with more regulation.

I do not support this.
While I agree the surprise fees are bullshit, i dont think the govt should get involved. Especially a collectivist like this pinko.
They probably have the fees listed anyway. People are just too lazy to read.
Its the same as downloading an app and agreeing to the terms and conditions, without reading them. And then find out later you gave them permission to listen to your calls, call and text people from your number, sell your data etc.

We've had complaints here in Las Vegas from tourists who have had fees added to their bill at checkout that were actually more per night than the room rate they were quoted. That's basically fraudulent advertising on the parts of the casinos.

Hotels, rental cars have been checkout shocking since the 2000s' plan on 2X. Rental car say $39.99 per day unlimited. Uh...more like $200 per day at checkout. Business rate also.
Marriott in 2018 was $250/night, La Quitaacross the street $130/night just as nice. But at checkout? Don't remember?

I don't think the federal government should be involved. I have no issue with local governments doing it.

I don't know when the last time you rented a car was, but I do it frequently for work. All of the fees added on to the daily rate are shown at completion of the reservation, so when you're selecting the car it may say $39.99, but when you submit the reservation the full price is shown. What it says when I make the reservation is what I pay after I turned the car back in.

I haven't had that issue in Atlantic City, but I don't doubt you on this.

Belligerent near XMAS time over $300/night at checkout. Trapped inside standing in line to eat for $130/person buffet all you can eat. Cant drive out. Gridlock. Lose parking place.

Yeah I guess. My bad not reading the contract or fine print on trips. Point was big sign X per day unlimited is not close! Not only business but personal retal.

And I'm still not willing to go to NY or MINN or any LW city no matter how low they make the rates. Nice try commeee.
