Lots of us are talking of the "Chicago Hardball" tactics of 0bama, made glorious by Richard Daley of Chicago. But we need to remember that the big thing about Daley was not the hardball, which there was in really big measure, but competence. The trains really did run on time, and when you bought an alderman, he delivered what you paid for.
All the hardball in the world could not rescue Michael Bilandic, who took over after Daley, when competence went down the chute.
So we have the hardball, do we have the competence? Will the 0ne follow the path of Carter to derision and electoral disaster?
Or do you think he is doing a good job of accomplishing his goals?
