Now how could anyone possibly disagree with something like this? No matter which side you're on, keeping US Steel American is a great idea. Even President Joe Biden and Trump’s Democratic rival, Vice President Kamala Harris said the Pittsburgh-based company should remain American-owned.

Trump says he will block Japanese firm’s takeover of U.S. Steel

"Nippon Steel, Japan’s largest steelmaker, has said it is determined to follow through with the $15 billion acquisition bid, which faces widespread political opposition."

"President-elect Donald Trump said Monday that he would block a Japanese company’s $15 billion bid to acquire U.S. Steel, a contentious deal that faces widespread political opposition.

Nippon Steel, Japan’s largest steelmaker, announced the deal last December and has said it is determined to see it through despite concerns about the implications for employees, supply chains and U.S. national security.

“I am totally against the once great and powerful U.S. Steel being bought by a foreign company, in this case Nippon Steel of Japan,” Trump said in a late-night post on his Truth Social platform.

“As President, I will block this deal from happening. Buyer Beware!!!”

Trump had expressed opposition to the deal during the presidential election campaign, along with President Joe Biden and Trump’s Democratic rival, Vice President Kamala Harris, who all said the Pittsburgh-based company should remain American-owned. Trump's comments on it Monday night are his first since he won the election last month.

A senior Nippon Steel executive told reporters last month that the company hoped to close the deal before Trump returns to the White House in January.

The deal is also opposed by the powerful United Steelworkers union, though some other U.S. Steel employees support it. U.S. Steel says it remains committed to the transaction as “the best deal for our employees, shareholders, communities and customers.”

I think Trump should make it illegal for any foreign company to own an American business!

It's not a take over. The CEO's of these companies are willing to sell to the highest bidder. It just happens to be the Japs.
That's "free market capitalism." Something the GOP doesn't believe in anymore.
That and fiscal conservatism.

We MUST manufacture or die.

The only way to do that, is for the voters to stop electing big spending, big government politicians like Trump and Biden.

Companies leave the US because of wages, for the most part. $15 to $20hr here. VS a country where $15 to $20 per day is the norm.
BTW, in those other countries, that $20 per day is a decent wage. Here it's a poverty wage.

Good. Hopefully it's not too late.

And double the workers wages right away as well. They're severely underpaid.

That's the wrong thing to do. Wages need to come down. Right along with all the government borrowing and spending.
They need to actually strengthen the USD and make it so that $15 is an upper class wage in this country again.

At a time when wages need to go up, we cannot survive them going down. Workers wages are woefully low right now. Woefully on steroids low.

They have to go down AFTER the government stops borrowing and printing. Not before. Decreasing wages beforehand, would hurt the economy.

The important part of my statement is the government stop spending more than it takes in. This is why wages have had to go up so fast. To keep up with the inflation the government has created.

It would be nice to see the Fat Ones become more Nippy .

The Nips are :-
More polite and courteous .
Higher IQ
Better cars
Love their Sushi
Rarely ever see a Fat Nip -- probably fart less which is great for Climate Change .

What is there not to like ?

They didn't go up fast though. They've been lagging way behind for 50 years! It's time they go up substantially to match productivity which is also too high

That's because the government has been borrowing & spending way too much. That needs to stop.
But with another big spending president about to take office, it's not about to stop.

And so the cycle will continue. By the end of Trumps term, $25hr is likely to be a poverty wage.

Trump didn't really spend all that much until the pandemic hit, then it became necessary.

Bull crap. The first spending bill was over $1 trillion. Then 12 CR's and a few omnibus bills.
Not to mention the fact that he should've never spent 1/2 of what he spent during covid.

Why do people excuse Trumps covid spending?

Your mind has been poisoned by the leftist media. Compared to Obama and Biden, President Trump didn't really spend much until there was a global pandemic.

US Steel will go under without the Japanese backing.

I disagree on the Trump part. Didn't you notice how the economy went nuclear under Trump's war on government regulations and pro business policies?
