Shapiro's question has some validity to it. It is no secret Putin has his eye on the Baltic states and considers them a part of the Soviet Russian Empire as much as Ukraine.

He's been playing war games on their borders like he did before invading Ukraine.

Would Trump come to the Baltic states' defense?

He would have to under Article 5 of the NATO treaty.

His "2 percent" evasive excuse would not hold since all three of those countries meet spend 2 percent or more of their GDP on defense spending.

In fact, every country which borders Russia meets or exceeds two percent of their GDP on defense spending.

I am not certain, one way or the other.

Trump's shameful gang-ambush of Ukrainian President Zelensky in the White House some weeks ago emboldened Russia.

However, it appears (observing from a great distance) that Trump is beginning to understand that Putin is untrustworthy.

Furthermore, it appears (again, from a distance) that Trump is beginning to see that Putin has been laughing at him all alongg.

I don't think the Orange Fellow's monumental eqo can "take that"... Trump will not suffer to lose that much "face" to Putin.

In recent weeks we have seen Trump begin to soften his stance on NATO and has begun to praise NATO in small sound-bytes.

In recent weeks we have seen Trump soften his stance on sending anti-aircraft technologies to Ukraine directly from the US.

All of which makes me think that given a little more prodding that Trump will eventually begin doing what's right...

Namely... resuming... even increasing... military and economic aid to Ukraine.

Any reversal of position would require Trump to apply a soothing balm to the Isolationists amongst his MAGA base, however...,

What Trump tells them, they'll eventually accept... "Trump befehl, wir folgen" - ja?

Even a broken clock is right twice a day... maybe Trump will come-around and eventually get-it-right regarding aid to Ukraine.
