The media has reported that Jeff Bezos founder and long-time CEO of Amazon and the owner of the Washington Post wrote yesterday in the Post that the Washington Post's opinion page essentially will no longer be unbiased and fair it will hold certain right wing values that being globalization is the right economic model for America and personal liberties should rule in America's laws and will not entertain articles that are antithetical to such values! This permanent high jacking of this valuable asset of America's Democracy is why Jeff Bezos should sell the Washington Post and not buy any media outlet in the future. Major newspapers play an important role in our society in that they are important places where we hold public debate on major issues where readers can hear both sides of an issue and then work out for themselves what is the right direction for the country to go. Globalization is pure evil it is on the level of slavery, morally, a country's fundamental duty is to create living wage jobs for their people, globalization gambles and brings about the destruction of such jobs, the demise of many a principle business for towns across America during the 1970's through 2000's establishes this evil effect where the shuttering of such businesses devastated local communities. Personal liberty to a degree is good but not the libertarian version Bezos espouses for example such things as permanent transgender surgeries and treatments for people under eighteen should not be allowed for it leaves a lot of these people severely emotionally injured for the rest of their life. A newspaper can have a bias but still allow for full and fair debate on their editorial pages allow articles advocating the opposite to the papers agenda for the Wall Street Journal does it, the WSJ priority is right wing pro-business, pro-wealthy and pro-the religious right but it offers robust articles supporting the other side! The Washington Post is probably the second most important paper in the country behind the Wall Street Journal it is a tragedy that it now will be permanently betraying its duty to be a fair and good newspaper. Jeff Bezos in the recent past has demonstrated himself to be inordinately pro-business and inordinately pro-the political powers to be, the prudent and good American thing for him to do is to recognize who he is and what he is all about and that a person like him should not own a major American newspaper and sell the Washington Post to an owner that does not have his drawbacks!

And it didn't upset you when he said they would boil and feed puppies to the staff on a weekly basis?

Well, the OP could not write there because they use paragraphs.

What's up with that anyway OP? Do you suffer from some condition that precludes you from posting anything but a wall of text?
That's often a side-effect of plagiarism.

I'm old enough to remember when WAPO did actual journalism though and I wouldn't have hesitated to use it as a credible source which I haven't been able to do for some time now.

I remember when the WSJ could be counted on for a solidly common sense conservative editorial page even if its news slants didn't quite accomplish that.

So Bezos wants the editorial page to promote personal liberties and free markets. Oh my, the horror!

". . .According to left-wing commentator Keith Olbermann, Bezos has declared “the paper utterly fascist” — as if free markets and personal liberties are the hallmarks of authoritarian rule. . ."

There is also this interesting observation of the "Trump effect":

". . .Perhaps more important, the president’s election — together with Elon Musk’s acquisition of Twitter — sent a cultural signal that it’s OK to defy woke employees and other forms of progressive social pressure. . . ."

Wouldn't it be wonderful if more people like Musk, Bezos and Zuckerman and other influential people in our society actually grew a pair and dared to return to the world of common sense and intellectual honesty instead of bowing to the dishonest and incomprehensible ideologies of the leftist woke?

Another tl;dr word dump by Jim. Fortunately I only needed to read the above to know the rest was BS.

FYI: WAPO and the NY TIMES are in a race to the bottom for biggest/worst newspapers of all time.

But wouldn't it be wonderful if WAPO got out of that race and decided to be a free and open and honorable standard of what the press should be again?

The Washington Post absolutely doesn't allow open discussion. I was ghosted from their online comments section pretty quick.

"Washington Post staffers are in open rebellion against Jeff Bezos
Analysis by Liam Reilly, CNN

Updated: 12:26 PM EST, Thu February 27, 2025

Source: CNN

Current and former Washington Post staffers are rebelling against Jeff Bezos after he announced a “significant” editorial shift that will see the paper’s Opinion section focus almost exclusively on personal liberties and free markets.

In a rare public announcement, Bezos, who owns the Post, on Wednesday shared that the paper’s editorial section would pivot to publish daily opinion stories “in support and defense of” the two “pillars,” emphasizing that while the section’s coverage would also include other subjects, “viewpoints opposing those pillars will be left to be published by others.”

While the Post’s reporting is still considered top-notch, the paper itself has hit a series of roadblocks in recent years. Years-long financial woes worsened after readers terminated subscriptions to protest Bezos’ involvement. A new publisher, appointed by Bezos last year, has proven unpopular with the newsroom. And Post staffers themselves have not shied away from voicing their discontent, either resigning or taking jobs with rivals.

Adding friction to the relationship between Bezos and the journalists at his newspaper is the billionaire’s increasingly apparent cozy relationship with President Donald Trump.

Included in the Wednesday announcement was the news that David Shipley, the Opinion section editor, had resigned from his role. Shipley was among the editors who navigated the fallout from Bezos’ disastrous October decision to block a pro-Kamala Harris endorsement that resulted in the paper losing 250,000 subscribers — reportedly over Shipley’s objection.

A shock to the system
The Bezos announcement sent shockwaves through the Post, alarming current and former staffers alike."
