Great question. I think it really depends on the individual person or group within MAGA. We could slide pretty easily into neo-fascism right now. We're already seeing several elements of it. The world has been warning us, but now they've given up and are just turning away. We'll see how the November elections go, and if they're real.
Trump himself is simply a profoundly needy child and a malignant narcissist (the behaviors match the term perfectly). He is simply single-minded, and out for himself in every possible way, from wealth to power to acceptance and adoration. He would have been a Democrat if the Dems had adored him, but he found an easier mark with the Talk Radio crowd.
Then there are the Stephen Miller types who are literal neofascists, and who know how to influence Trump. We're seeing Miller's influence from the hyper-aggressive Proud Boys ICE agents to the way Trump is single-handedly threatening, manipulating and intimidating American businesses (the Father of Fascism, Mussolini, called it "corporatism").
Then the third level would be the useful idiots -- this includes congressional Republicans who are craven and shameless enough to enable this, to the street rubes who somehow can't see what is happening. I'd guess that some of these people are literally neofascists themselves, but this group is largely just manipulated and restricted intellectually.
So the goals are not singular, and that makes this far more complicated, destructive and dangerous.
