"This Kansas mayor faces deportation for voter fraud. He says it was an honest mistake"

"Ceballos, the twice-elected mayor of Coldwater, Kansas, says he didn't understand that as a Mexican immigrant he couldn't vote in the United States."

"An honest mistake, he said. But now he's found himself in legal trouble that threatens to upend the life he's spent half a century building.

He now faces felony charges for voter fraud, filed by Kris Kobach, the state attorney general."

"Ceballos, 54, also thinks he "probably" voted for Kobach all four times Kobach ran for state office. And he thinks he voted three times for President Donald J. Trump, including in the 2020 election. He thinks, rather than knows for sure, his friends say, because of a naivety that probably led to this mess."

Guess which party he runs for.

"Coldwater mayor Joe Ceballos, a self-described loyal Republican voter,"

Yep, this guy might get deported, presumably he's trying to save himself by getting in the media and reaching out to Trump, because Trump likes to pardon those who support him.

How do you become mayor of a U.S. city, and you're not even a citizen yourself? That is utterly insane.

Seriously, how does a guy become mayor or AG anywhere then register to vote and not even be a citizen?

Oh yeah, the USA is a country which put a man in office who was born in Kenya, raised in Hawaii, to communist parents (much like Kamala), who was never even really a naturalized citizen who was later found to be carrying two SS numbers, one from Connecticut.

And democrats fought tooth and nail to put him in the WH.

Holding elected office at federal, state, and almost all local levels requires citizenship, and noncitizens are prohibited from participating in decision-making for election-related activities.
Therefore, deportation is just. Jose Ceballos violated the law and committed a crime first by entering the U.S. illegally.
Second, by voting in municipal and federal elections, and
Third criminally holding an elected as an illegal

Well, the fact that he was a Republican who seemingly supported the idea that non-citizens were voting as being a huge fraud, and that they should be deported, and that he didn't seem to equate this to himself, seems rather ironic seeing how a lot of MAGA supporters on this forum have no clue what they're cheering on.

I have this funny deja vu feeling that this story is missing some key information. In other words, SSDD.
I have the feeling that you will do zero research into it to find what you think is missing.
If it were a Democrat, there wouldn't be any missing information, would there?

"“I still strongly believe in Trump’s immigration laws about, ‘Let’s get the bad guys out of here.’ You know, they’re murderers, they killed people, they molested people, let’s get them out of here,” Ceballos said to the publication. “But I feel like I don’t fit that category. And I feel like that’s how they’re treating me.”"

Hilarious. Obviously this is how the majority of Republicans feel. They can do anything, because they're the "good guys", or the "cowboys" going around committing genocide, while the "bad guys" or the "injuns" are the others.

The dude came to the US at the age of 4. He was not a citizen.

It doesn't says which elections he voted in, but he voted in November

"Ceballos illegally voted in August 2024, November 2023 and November 2022. Election officials said Ceballos has been on the Kansas voter rolls since at least 2006."

Obviously November 2023 was not federal, but 2024 and 2022 could have been. He said he voted for Trump.

What's missing?

I don't think it is. He was Mayor of a place of 700 people. The people of that place should run it. Doesn't matter if he's a US citizen. To vote in Kansas elections, who cares? US elections is something else, he's not a US citizen.

Republicans caught doing voting fraud.

So no problem if a Mexican national is elected the Governor or California?

He was registered to vote in 1990.
so what is he doing living in the USA for 25 years (at least) and not becoming a citizen.

Says he was registered in 2006 in the article I read, but didn't vote until 2022.

Probably he didn't become a citizen because it was easy to not be a citizen. This is one of the problems with Trump, really he should say "look, you have to apply for citizenship within a period of time, otherwise things will get difficult" rather than just "get out now"

checking again, it appears he got green card in 1990, and registered to vote in 1999.

He has voted in numerous Kansas elections since roughly 2000,, totaling roughly 29 times, believing his permanent residency made him eligible.

You might be right, all I'm saying is what I read in one article.

I don't care what political stripe he is. If he is an illegal alien he should not be holding office as mayor of the town.
Deportation is too good for this individual. He should first serve time for the fraud he perpetrated.

Time for sane voter ID laws.
