Linemen Just Went on Strike in NC After NOT being Paid for 8 Weeks by FEMA

Good. Excellent. Keep it up brothers…. IBEW, UWUA, etc… Stay Safe. Be smart. Make sure you get home to your wives and kids.

Anathema - UWUA Local 369 - Massachusetts.

News 13 also reached out to MasTec and Charter Communications, Spectrum's parent company, for comment. Neither company has answered News 13's questions about why the linemen say they did not get paid on time for their work in early October.

They haven't been paid by Mastec and Charter.

Why wouldn't their companies be paying them and the company would get reimbursed by whoever they have the contract with?

I doubt if they are FEMA employees.

Something stinks.
If they’re employees of small, local companies their employer may not have the funds to pay them. It has happened to a small electric utility her in MA/NH after several major storms over the years.

You must have some FUBAR companies up that way if they can't even pay wages for extended storm work. I guess they never heard of a line of credit.

I just looked at it again.....It's a company problem, not a FEMA one.

The company is playing fuck-fuck games with job coding.

The number of strikes is going to be increasing in the coming years. What else can workers do?

Yeah, it is a pretty fucked I’m company. They bring at an absolutely minimal profit. They often cannot even book outside line crews for storm work due to financial issues. I won’t bore you with the details.

I’m guessing the company is banking on FEMA coming in and covering the expenses. Absolutely disgusting to see these line workers getting screwed by their employer.

It reminds me of Yellow Freight. They just shutdown stranding thousands of drivers on the road with defunct fuel cards.

Many just dropped their loads and dead-headed as close to home as they could get, parked their tractor, and got a ride home the rest of the way.

Your last sentence is happening more and more. Why?

Yeah, there is no way that FEMA pays them directly. That is not the way things work

No, there are always big Democrat Party "middle men" who siphon off the spending, steal it, and kick it back to the Democrat Party.

In FEMA's case, the FEMA funding was spent on illegals, not Americans, indicating the true priority of the Harris Biden Administration = fuck Americans, bilk Americans to pay for illegals, and don't worry about hurricanes...

Possibly because their companies didn't send them.

The role of FEMA is to provide resources (equipment, supplies, etc.) and write checks to State government agencies. They are not supposed to be contracting directly with service providers. That is up to the individual States.

Regardless, the States should be shouldering the initial burdens in any event, even if FEMA is late in getting them the money.

A lot of folks aren’t gonna like this answer….

Phone/Cable Providers; These compnies largely want out of the poles and wires business, with the exception of high speed internet and Verizon’s FIOS offering. They definitely want out of the pole business. Many are selling or even giving their interest in their utility poles to the electric utilities. That means the phone and cable companies no longer have to set/replace poles. That saves them a lot of money. It also allows them to reduce physical assets both in terms of people and products.

Electric Companies: Electric utility companies are being expected to do far more with the same or less investment. Between distributed generation (solar/wind), increased reliability, faster response to outages, etc… the public and regulators want these companies to spend massive amounts of money while not always allowing the companies to retrieve that money from rate payers.
