Liberal Bogosity: "The Wall Has To Forcibly Cross Private Property"

One of the objections by Democrats over Comrade Trump's border wall is that it would have to cross private property and pristine landscapes.

Gosh, I hope we never need a two thousand mile long transcontinental railroad!

And we'd be totally screwed if we ever needed to build 46,876 miles of interstate highways!

Oh, wait...
I was under the impression all the rights of way had been cleared, since the Clinton era bill that was never funded.
Private property rights have never been of concern to Democrats. After all, they spend so much time trying to prove rich people don't deserve their money and that it is okay to take it from them.

This latest argument over the wall and property rights is hypocritical and totally illogical.

me being a Texan, Conservatives rule the state .. you want to piss off Texans try and take their private property. The biggest ranch I've ever been on was 26 square miles. The owner has been touted in Texas Parks and Wildlife monthly magazine for his ranch stewardship, and has a lot of pride and time invested in his pristine dirt. He will have who ever trys to move 1 single fence post of his in court longer that their grandchildren will be alive.
But Trump said yesterday they don't have to wait for the courts -- they can take the land and build on it before the court case is settled. Was he wrong?

the lady that owned the home next to a Trump casino ( and he filed ED to get it ) kept Trump in court until he went bankrupt, and she died. Her daughter wound up selling it to an investor so the answer is simple - TRUMP IS FULL OF SHIT.

Ay the landowners alot more than the land is worth. Then perhaps they are motivated.

Okay, yes, but consider those particular Texans are RIGHT on the border and are probably seeing illegals cross on the daily. So they might be a little more amenable to having a border wall built IF the gov't offers them a fair deal.

Some yes, but some no. There are only a few places where illegals currently cross in large enough numbers to be a problem. So it is only those directly on a trail that want a wall. Most emphatically do not, and would shoot to stop any construction on their land. I do not consider Eminent Domain to be even remotely legal.

Well, that doesn't surprise me--but he was on the national news LIVE yesterday insisting on that to the American people. If it weren't true, I'm surprised the media hasn't been tearing into it like they have the National Emergency thing.

The Envirowhackos will buy up and destroy your "private property" if there's some obscure endangered beetle on it. They don't care about private property. They will destroy your property for frogs, snakes, turtles or any little crawling creature they want. Oh, except unborn humans of course. They love to advocate to kill those, but that's another story.....

It does not destroy property to leave it alone.
There are few home owners who would not like the opportunity to be paid to leave things alone.
We have an over abundance of humans who are already killing each other due to over population, and that is not at all similar to whole species going extinct. Remember, our survival depends on the environment and its inhabitants, like bees for food pollination.

Has anyone seen the damage the illegals have done to that pristine landscape? Go look. Then tell us about protecting landscape.

My Uncle owns a farm in Texas. He and his neighbors are not amenable to notin. And rightly so.

On the Mexican border then?
Yes Mam.

Right on the border is his farm, then.

Uh-huh

Since the border is a river, then all the farms are the most densely concentrated, right on the border.
You can't farm without water, and a river is way better than drilling lots of deep wells and pumping it up.

Ay the landowners alot more than the land is worth. Then perhaps they are motivated.

They are already projecting upwards of $20 billion even without buying the land.
How much are you willing to pay for the wall?
And even double the normal price, there is no place for these people to move to.
It is not like there is another river like the Rio Grande in Texas.

Unfortunately, eminent domain is very common. The only thing that slowed Trump was that it was for a private casino, and not public works. But I still consider all eminent domain to be completely and utterly illegal. The needs of the many do NOT outweigh the rights of the one.

What Is Eminent Domain?

Eminent domain refers to the power of state and federal governments to take private property for public use. In most cases, the private landowner must be paid “just compensation”

Yes, I just read this and am putting up a post on it. The government can, apparently, just take it and the court will only decide how much the government pays. I think the issue with Trump's was whether it was "public use" or not.

That really was a hilarious story. This old woman was offered over a million dollars for her little shack. She was ecstatic over really sticking it to the rich guy who wanted to overpay. The proud old woman fighting for her home.

Then the bottom fell out of the Atlantic City casino business. The Trump casino went bankrupt and the bid on the property was dropped.

This is where it starts getting good. The old woman's daughter had to put the old lady in an assisted living facility. Then she finds that she cannot unload that worthless property at all. Daughter has to pay out of her own pocket for care. Good thing Mom died. Yes an investor bought the property for pennies when she could have gotten millions.

Could not have happened to more deserving people. They were probably Democrats.

Private property rights had been a concern to Republicans. Now it doesn't. They are hypocritical as well.

The bottom line is Democrats are right this time. There is no need for a wall and no good reason for taking people's property by force.

Come on, they are on foot, so the worst they could do is litter a few empty water containers.
Oh. You haven't been there. You are making it up!

I don't know what that's a picture of, but it's not just trash left behind. That's a campsite for many, many who got raided.

I had an old aunt who wouldn't sell out, either, even though the neighborhood was getting pretty unsafe and she was old and her husband was dead and she could have gotten a nice little apartment on one floor, but NO. She had lived there thirty or more years, spent her married life there, raised her boys there, and god fucking damn it, she wasn't going anywhere.

Eminent domain: What is it, and why is it important for Trump's border wall?
I heard wrong. 2/3 of the land is privately owned and they estimate it will cost 21M to settle the claims that have lain dormant since 2007, when the wall was first approved, but the new ones? No one knows.
The Democrats have already signed off on a lot of funding for border security over the years.

And yet Republicans have blocked immigration reform for two decades. Even Bush tried to get immigration reform passed, but was blocked by a few hardheaded assholes.

I don't really blame the Democrats for creating their own wall of resistance at this point.

It's time for some give and take.

But this private property argument is bogus.

It is not bogus. Just because Democrats are making it does not make it bogus. I will defend personal property rights and if Democrats are the ones who stand with me in this case then so be it.

In other words " I don't know what that is a picture of. I am not going to accept the word of people who were there. I'm going to make something up that I like."

Is that about it?

Good. There is nothing better than standing on principle. How much was the old aunt offered for her place?

Hell, Reagan worked out a deal with Tip O'Neal decades ago to secure the border, G5000. Reagan lived up to his side of the bargain but the Democrats never did. For someone to claim that it's the GOP that needs to provide some "give and take" is an amusing concept! They already "gave" and the Democrats already "took".
