Truth is there is no such thing as a totally free market. It cannot exist without laws at all or you end up with anarchy. We need small limited government and try to make it as easy as possible to do business while having necessary laws in place. There are many laws in place that have a sole purpose of making it too expensive for small businesses to operate competitively against major corporations. As far as free trade, that is fine if the country we are trading with are operating fairly and not making American made goods at a competitive disadvantage. I think we as a country should only have free trade agreements where the other country's hourly wages are comparable to those in the US. If the hourly wages are less, then there should be an import tax to compensate for the cheaper labor costs. The negative is products would then cost more and people will complain.
Yeah, you'd end up with monopolies, fiefdoms and all sorts of things without regulation.
Now, some people would suggest that the govt when Bush was president, didn't have enough control of the market, as it went balls up.
When there are problems all over the place, especially with banks. Do you really want to make it easy for people to do business in banking? You end up with what you've seen.
Oh, you only want free trade with certain countries. Hmm, how's that free trade? It's picking a choosing free trade, and isn't free trade, quite the opposite.
