The Midrash has many very interesting stories elaborating the Tanakh (Old Testament). These stories have very interesting after-history. Islam popularized many of these stories to billions of people. We view observant Muslims as Righteous Noahides. Now the Legend of Seven Earths is known to 1.7 Billion Muslim People.

Rabbi Louis Ginzberg produced a monumental work in which he translated Midrash into English. Dr. Sigmund Freud explained deep Kabalistic concepts in terms of early XXth Century Psychology. Franz Kafka incorporated many concepts of Midrash and Kabala into his writings. Many Hollywood producers incorporate Midrash into sadly profane films.

I love Franz Kafka's The Hunger Artist -- a short story about life deteriorating. It conveys some very deep and primal emotion of Despair.
