Where did you get that? Like the people of the USA, Mexico has a long history of one indigenous people being overtaken by another as cultures changed over the millenia. Ultimately Spain would take over Mexico and most of the American southwest and install its own culture and language while other Europeans did the same in the East. New cultures that formed ultimately prevailed in both countries with Mexican and British rule ejected from the USA and the Spaniards from Mexico.

Yes the American southern states did secede from an oppressive union but were beaten into submission and forced to rejoin the union.

As in the entire history of the world though, the people who control the land at any given time are the indigenous people of that land.
