We just got home in March from visiting my older sister and my parents.

But to make a long story short, we are going to pick up, our new kitty! His name is Cooper. I call him Cooper Duper! Finally, 2.5 years after our beloved Casey Kitty girl died, hubby and I are ready for a new kitty....the heartbreak was way too deep before this....:(

When visiting my sister and parents we stayed at my sister's house, a few doors down from my parents. She's a late sleeper and I am an early riser, Matt's an inbetween, so to take advantage of the lovely weather compared to brutal Maine in Feb and March I used to go out front and sit on her front portico, with my kindle or phone and have my coffee, speak to the chirping birds in a tree nearby, watch the neighbors from a distance, walk their dogs, and get a glimpse of a deer or two walking through the woods on her side yard....It was simply heaven on Earth, like it is here in Maine, in summer time!!!

At night my sister feeds the raccoons and possum every night dry cat food. Yes, she's definitely the Raccoon Whisperer and has names for her favorites...one actually knocks on her front door to let her know he has arrived!😁

She also feeds stray kitties on the garage side of her house...my mom feels sorry for them too and feeds them out front on her side of the yard near the woods. And a guy at the end of the retaining pond does too, he also feeds the deer that come through the neighborhood... No hunting here or surrounding woods. ( My heavens, are deer so much smaller in Florida than up in Maine where they get HUGE)

SO, about three weeks before heading home to Maine, this beautiful striped, skinny kitty shows up, out front...not on the side with the other strays who run, and just sits there and stares me down.... I understood. This kitty really wanted food....my sister has a kitty boy, so I grab a can of wet food and bring it out to this kitty in a bowl and sat back down in seat...and watched. When this kitty was done, to my total surprise it jumped up on my lap and curled up and went to sleep then would leave around 10 am and come back right before the raccoons show up in the evening. My sister would NOT let me bring the kitty inside because she didn't want it to bring in fleas or disease that could harm her cat...she was a real ***** about it, I thought at the time, but heh...she loves her kitty boy.

No matter what, if I was sitting on the porch and this kitty showed up, it was jumping in my lap....I've had two beautiful kitties over the years and neither were lap cats, not like this! I didn't know if it was a male or female, and truly I wasn't quite sure how to tell!😊. I googled it, to know what I was looking for...and quite frankly, Matt and I both stink at it....our last cat Casey, we looked and it seemed like there was balls... we thought it was a He, a male cat?

So we had originally given him a male name and dropped him off at the vet to be neutered and get shots etc....the vet said it would be three hours before we could pick him up, we live 3 miles away.... about a half hour after we get home we get a call from our vet....he said to Matt, your HE is a SHE, and SHE'S pregnant!!!! 😁 Don't count on me knowing.... Even with my Google lesson on it!

I was guessing and praying this stray was a boy....didn't want a bunch of kittens showing up while it was on my lap....it was hard to tell but I thought I saw these tiny little balls? My sister, who has had 11 cats over her lifetime, said to me, they would be big and bold...she thought if all I was seeing was something small, it was likely a neutered boy.... Oh boy! The kitty was likely, someone else's.... :(

Anyway, my sister thought, lets put a collar on him with a note to call us, if they own this cat, he disappeared for long hours during the day...maybe he was someone else's? If so, we expected to see a note on the collar or a new collar or get a call....

Nothing. My sister posted on all her local social media about anyone missing a cat....

In the meantime, my sister still would not let us bring him in...but her scheming, brilliant, indoor cat was hiding from me and when I opened the door with dinner for Cooper, her cat got out...sis wasn't home, Matt wasn't either....she was going to kill me... No doubt in my mind, if her kitty boy was run over or killed by a coyote, or got lost... I was DEAD MEAT!

To be Continued....

I couldn't get near her cat...he ran every time I got close, it was dark, her cat thinks this is some kind of game that happens whenever he outsmarts us and escapes...I see Cooper and Teddy go noes to nose...Cooper sat there without moving an inch or batting an eyelash, as teddy sniffs every inch of him...I saw it as an opportunity to catch him...but he ran again this time the backside of house which is even darker...this went on an hour and a half...during that time Cooper and Teddy became friends and were playing with each other... I still couldn't catch teddy. But eventually I had to do it, and reached my sis on the phone and she instructed me on what to do to catch him....basically put a lawn chair out in the middle of the yard, sit down in it and stop chasing him! Low and behold, about ten minutes later, teddy came up to me and I picked him up and brought him back in... Well, we learned one thing, Cooper and Teddy were friends.

No one replied on social media, no one responded to the collar. Now we needed to catch him, bring him to a pet store to see if he was chipped! Matt and I could not do that before we left so we drove home without him...all we could do was talk about him on the drive home...hoping my sister would continue to feed him...

We called when we got home and told my sis we wanted him. She captured him, took him to the vet to get checked out and shots, deworming, etc and even paid for it all...doc said he was healthy, not quite three years old, and neutered, but not chipped.

She's had him inside with Teddy the past 3 months. We've had all kinds of doctor's appointments and this is the soonest we could get back there to pick him up!

And we'll be able to spend father's day, taking dad out to dinner.

We are planning a three week trip.

Very little is cuter than a kitten. Very little is more aggravating than a cat.

Made it through 4 states today, to Connecticut right outside of NYC....which is a nightmare! The scariest part of the trip for me...

We will also make it through DC by tomorrow evening....second biggest nightmare of the drive...and it's some sort of international Pride festival....both cities should be packed... :(

I lived in NYC. Some good points, but mostly bad. They are fudge packed.

Yes, you will never catch them by running after them! Eventually they have to come to you.

I've lived in Bensonhurst, and BayRidge in Brooklyn, part of 1st grade, 3rd grade, part of 5th grade, part of 8th grade, 9th grade, part of 10th grade and near every summer for a month or two after that....

My dad was in the USAF and every time he was transferred to a new base, we lived with my grandparents until he found a new home for us to live off base, and when he was sent to Vietnam we lived with them the year, and when he retired and was looking for a new career/job. So, I kinda grew up there, in between all the other states, and Italy, a little in Germany, and Puerto Rico, where we were also stationed.

I loved living in Brooklyn...the smells of pizza and fresh bread from the corner bakery, the variety of fresh fruit and veggies at the outside fruit stands and inside the local grocer! We lived in a really good and safe neighborhood when growing up, sitting with neighbors on the front stoop when it was a hot summer night... my grandmom taking us to Macys on 34th street to shop for Chrismas presents....

this was ages and eons ago....and I wouldn't trade the experience for anything, much like all the other states and countries I've lived in...
