USA declared war on Iraq in 2003 in order to overthrow thee Iraqi government, get Saddam out of power, and attempt to rebuild Iraq and make them an ally in the mideast..
Since USA has gone through allllll of this trouble though to do this, just wondering, why hasn’t USA forced Iraq to withdraw from OPEC?
According to google, Iraq was a founding member of OPEC and joined the organization wayy back in 1960..
The thing is though, USA doesn’t always exactly have smooth relations with OPEC. Iran and Venezuela were 2 of the 5 founding members of OPEC, and USA has had an embargo/sanctions on Iran since like 1979/the 1980’s..
According to google ,USA and OPEC often times have a tense and competitive relationship.. So if this so, just wondering, why hasn’t USA forced Iraq to withdraw from OPEC?
(The goal of Operation Iraqi Freedom was to overthrow their government and to turn enemy Iraq into a mideastern ally..)
It’s asinine to think that Iraq’s massive oil reserves had little to no interest to USA when George W. Bush decided to declare war on Iraq in 2003..
(USA still has thousands of troops in Iraq combating ISIS..)
So just wondering, if USA overthrew thee Iraqi government in 2003, why is Iraq still in OPEC? Does USA even control Iraq’s oil industry with alllll the billions of dollars we put into Operation Iraqi Freedom and post-war?
