The 1991 Gore Bill helped fund the National Center for Supercomputing Applications at the University of Illinois, where a team of programmers, including Netscape founder Marc Andreessen, created the Mosaic Web browser in 1993, the commercial Internet's technological springboard credited as beginning the Internet boom of the 1990s. Andreessen stated that 'If it had been left to private industry, it wouldn't have happened ... at least, not until years later."

Internet Hall of Fame Global Connector Inductee Al Gore

Al Gore, the 45th Vice President of the United States, was a key proponent of sponsoring legislation that funded the expansion of and greater public access to the Internet.

Instrumental in helping to create the “Information Superhighway,” Gore was one of the first government officials to recognize that the Internet’s impact could reach beyond academia to fuel educational and economic growth as well.

Gore’s interest in computers dates back to the 1970s when he was a Congressman, where he had a reputation for being an “Atari Democrat.” He created the High-Performance Computing and Communications Act of 1991 (the Gore Bill), which allocated $600 million for high performance computing and helped create the NREN (National Research and Educational Network). In addition, the Gore Bill created the National Information Infrastructure (NII) also known as the Information Superhighway.

In his essays entitled “Infrastructure for the Global Village,” and “No More Information Have and Have Nots,” Gore recognized the importance of building the information infrastructure and making it available to everyone. As the first administration to launch an official website, federal agencies were mandated to fully utilize technology to make agency information available to the public. Additionally, through his involvement with Net Day, Gore made it his mission to connect “every classroom to the Internet by the year 2000.”

That happened 4 years after the Gore bill helped create the Internet browser those e-commerce sellers used. It wasn't until 1997 that 1 million transaction had finally been conducted online.

Clinton / Gore had already created 15 million jobs before the internet boom took off in 1997. Then another 7 million jobs were created until the Republican Disaster in 2001

sorry i cant give presidents that much credit for jobs....

A good economy usually produces 180,000 jobs per month.

Economists projected 190,000. We exceeded that with 206,000.

Now even if that number is later modified down at a later date (which is routine… sometimes down a little sometimes up) it still going to be a number at or above that 180,000 that signifies a good economy.

What you say? Unemployment ticked up slightly? That happens when workers who have give up looking for work decide that they can re-enter the work force because THERE ARE JOBS TO BE HAD

So despite all the Trumper whining… the economy continues to do well

I've been rubbing it in Republicans faces today

“You’re going to have a hard time believing this, but so help me, I triple-checked it. Since the end of the Cold War in 1989, America has created about 51 million new jobs. I swear I checked this three times. Even I couldn’t believe it. What’s the score? Democrats 50, Republicans one.”

Did you hear that Harry?
