To be fair, Canada was still under British rule during the War of 1812, but no, Canadians themselves were not the ones who actually burned down the White House.

As for an actual fighting war with Canada, it would depend entirely on whether we actually went to war with the objective of conquering them, or if we ran a war like all other post-WWII conflicts, where we were too afraid to actually fight to win.

If we went in with the objective of conquering, and thumbed our noses at the rest of the world, then it would be over pretty fast.

No, it would be over quick even if we put the kids gloves on. We would steamroll Canada within a week. With targeted strikes and a massive land invasion, it would be game over almost instantly. Canadian civilians would never dream of fighting against our tanks and troops, so the US would walk right in without firing a shot against any civilian, and the Canadian military would put up less of a fight than Iraq did.

Iraq was dug in, fortified with bunkers, anti aircraft systems, etc. Canada isnt prepared for an invasion of any kind. They have always relied on the US to protect them. Why build a bunch of expensive strategically placed military bases around their nation, when the US provides all the cover they need? They arent set up for war at all.
