Just so we're clear, you do know that John Oliver is a comedian, right? He's not a fact-based political commentator. Nothing wrong with that, so long as you understand it.

That said, as a comedian I don't find him very funny. Like a lot of political humor, it relies on the audience being on board with the central theme of the bit, in this case the theme being that social media giants were on the side or rightiousness, but have now gone to the dark side.

Given that, the jokes were not particularly good. His remark about Zuckerberg being undercover as a less popular version of himself was clever, but did not make me laugh. The rest was predictable and boring.

As far as the central theme about social media, it should give you pause. You should ask yourself how they all went bad at once, and whether they were bad the whole time, just keeping up a front.

If they so dishonest that they were keeping up a front, pretending to hate Trump as much as you do, how reliable was their reporting, moderating and fact-checking?
