Retiring West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin recently made a public statement calling on President Joe Biden to pardon President-elect Donald Trump. In his recommendation, Manchin suggested that pardoning Trump for all charges would help balance the situation and allow the country to move forward without prolonged legal battles.

Manchin emphasized the idea of 'wiping the slate clean' by pardoning Trump and avoiding potential legal challenges that could distract the president from his duties over the next four years. He expressed concern that ongoing court cases and legal issues could hinder Biden's ability to focus on his presidential responsibilities.

Nah, Trump should just do it himself on Jan 20th at 1201pm EST and cite “The new Biden rule”. :laughing0301:
Some were federal but they died a natural death anyway. The POTUS can't pardon state charges.

You would think Manchin would know that.....Just trying to take the heat off the Biden Crime Family I guess.

.

Don't you need to be guilty of something in order to be pardoned?

Manchin is as braindead as RFK jr.

Whether a president can grant himself a pardon is a question that has long fascinated academics. It has never been answered since, thankfully, no president had had the reason or the temerity for such a self-dealing abuse of power. Trump’s recent uses of pardon authority, however, are widely viewed as signaling to Mueller's targets that the president could act to gut the investigation with a barrage of pardons, including for himself.
Article II, Section 2, of the Constitution defines the pardon power as allowing a president to “grant reprieves and pardons for offenses against the United States, except in cases of impeachment.” There is no language specifying who may or may not be the subject of a pardon. The president is simply given the power to pardon any federal crime.

As a textual matter, there is nothing to prevent Trump from adding his own name to the list of pardoned individuals. And Trump agrees, according to this tweet from Monday morning:

Biden can't, Dems would fling themselves off rooftops.

Well...there may be a bright side to this idea :D

Traitors who try to overthrow our democracy should be shot, not pardoned.

Actually, it would be a smart move on the part of the Democrats. All of the Lawfare they waged against Trump is going to crumble anyhow.

But the Democrat base would have a conniption over such a move, so I don't think they will do it.

Particularly as they already see Manchin as a "traitor" to their cause.

Yes, Donald Trump can pardon himself, but it would be a disastrous idea........

That never stopped the orange moron before.

No man can decide or judge his own case.

Trump can't pardon himself, if he follows the rules, protocol. He can't forgive himself for his own crimes.

Nixon would have pardoned himself, if he legally could have....but he couldn't according to his lawyers... Thus the plan for Ford to do it...?

I would hate to see this skewed SC making this decision....

Criminals cover for each other.

I'm actually fine with President Biden pardoning President-Elect Trump under certain conditions and with full compliance.

Conditions:
  • Trump agrees to 5 days of questioning and truthful non-evasive responses. If he lies or refuses to answer questions - the deal is off.
  • Evidence reviewed and questions to be presented by federal prosecutors from the Special Counsels office. If he demands someone else - the deal is off.
  • Session last from 0800 to 2000 daily. If he leaves before the Special Counsel finishes for the day - the deal is off.
  • Each session to be video streamed to the public and all major news sources in real time. No delay, no editing. If he refuses to be truthful to the American people - the deal is off.
  • Such video deposition done under oath subject to further perjury charges. If he refuses - the deal is off.
  • As part of the pardon Trump admits to his quilt. If he refuses - the deal is off.
  • Pardon limited to federal crimes and the indictment's for both attempting to interfere with the 2020 election (DC Case) and Espionage (Florida Case). Other, as yet unknown crimes are not covered. If he refuses - the deal is off.
Let's clear the air and start with a clean slate.
