Jimmy Carter: The Father of the Islamic Revolution
Analysis of Jimmy Carter's role in the Islamic Revolution and its lasting impact on Middle East politics.
People say that Jimmy Carter was a "good, decent man". However, there are many good and decent men that have no place in national leadership positions. When Iran took Americans hostage in 1979, and held them captive for 444 days (and then released them only because they feared Reagan), Jimmy Carter did nothing to free them. Sure, he employed "diplomacy". But this was done with the mistaken assumption that the Iranians would engage in western diplomacy. They don't, and they never have. The only thing the Iranian theocrats respect is war.
Jimmy Carter finally, after so much time had passed, assented to an attempted rescue by the military. It involved sending helicopters roaring across the desert at night to surprise the captors and over power them. But the operation was a total failure. They tried to fly in a dust storm. Helicopters were crashing into one another and the mission had to be aborted. Carter had F-ed up again. It was a humiliating failure that Carter saddled America with. Imagine the entire Jihadi world, and the Soviets, looking at America being brought to our knees but a bunch of desert dwelling Jihadists. Let's face it, Jihadists are the inbred hillbillies of the Muslim world. Imagine a bunch of inbred hillbillies boondoggling a global superpower. In addition to hurting America's credibility in the world and, thereby, putting us at risk, such impotence is an invitation to the entire world to take advantage of us. We were a country that did not rescue OUR PEOPLE from harm's way. Hell, even the Jihadi scum did that!
Jimmy Carter did this to America. Does this sound like the acts of a good and decent man? No, it sounds like the acts of a morally confused coward. He may have righted himself with God after the presidency, or not. I don't know, nor do I care. But during Carter's 4 years in the White House, he did irreparable harm to America. It took the bold moves of Reagan, a Godsend at the time, to restore American credibility and prosperity. It is my opinion that one cannot build enough houses for poor people to make up for what Carter did during those 4 years.
