My prayers go out to all those affected by this tragedy in South Korea. CNN says at least 85 died and 181 people were onboard the plane going from Bangkok, Thailand to Jeju, South Korea. Stay strong my fellow Koreans!

I flew from Seoul to Bangkok just 3.5 weeks ago. I wonder what the cause of this crash was.
they are talking about some kind of problem with the landing gear. I have flown on Korean Air and Asiana Air but I never flew Jeju Air because I never went to Jeju Island in South Korea when I was in South Korea a long time ago.

If they were coming in with no landing gear; why didn't they dump the fuel before setting down?

Amazing that anyone could survive this. Pilots were not prepared to deal with this emergency, too fast, too much fuel onboard, and likely not using the entire runway.

Everything was kinda going ok until the sudden stop at the end. Why put a damn wall? Why not a gravel or whatever catch area to slow down planes that overrun runways like this?

They forgot to put down the landing gear, they were overwhelmed by the bird strike.

I doubt they forgot to put the landing gear down. Chances are they didn't have landing gear operational.

They got moved from one direction to the other because of birds. But the pilot had called mayday, so there was clearly a problem already

To prevent the plane from exploding, a fuel dump should have been done before landing. Alternatively, the pilot could fly around in order to burn fuel, which could have saved many lives. The Korean airport was poorly designed, too. The plane collided with a concrete structure at the end of the runway when it exploded, which isn't normally there.

Not all planes are equipped with this sophisticated system, however. FAA spokesperson Alison Duquette says that narrow-body planes, like the Airbus A320 or the Boeing 757, aren't built with fuel dumping abilities. But larger, wide-body planes, like the Boeing 777 and 747, which have added tanks, can dump fuel. In fact, the FAA requires certain planes to have fuel jettison systems.
