I hadn't heard of this before. On this date in 1920, the Democrat Woodrow Wilson's DOJ under AG Mitchell Palmer (a Democrat) detained between 3,000 - 10,000 Americans without warrants and under general suspicion.

Wow! Talk about "Threat to democracy" :eek-52:

On this day in history, January 2, 1920, thousands detained by DOJ in nationwide 'Palmer Raids'

"The Department of Justice unleashed a shocking and often violent unconstitutional nationwide dragnet — detaining as many as 10,000 people — on this day in history, Jan. 2, 1920.

Attorney General A. Mitchell Palmer, appointed to the office 10 months earlier by President Woodrow Wilson, led the sweep against suspected communists and anarchists, as well as their sympathizers.

The action was soon dubbed the Palmer Raids.

"The raids constituted a horrific, shameful episode in American history, one of the lowest moments for liberty since King George III quartered troops in private homes," writes the Foundation for Economic Education.

The foundation called the effort under President Wilson "America's reign of terror."

Reagan (a Republican) never had thousands of people illegally-detained.

Even after the Capitol protest, the Democrat administration only arrested about 1,100 people.

No surprise.

During World War I, the American government had also thrown a presidential candidate into prison.

reagan a rupublican. had many more people detained than that in the illegal and corrupt "drug war."

i am not making excuses for wilson. but historic tidbits like the palmer raids should be reviewed for "lessons learned" rather than to blame .

the raids were post war, but remind me more of the round up of muslim americans in 2001 or the japanese internment. wrong, of course, but hysteria abounds.

The Palmer Raids were a series of raids conducted in November 1919 and January 1920 by the United States Department of Justice under the administration of President Woodrow Wilson to capture and arrest suspected socialists, especially anarchists and communists, and deport them from the United States.

Biden is reenacting the Palmer Raids in reverse

Instead of arresting people suspected of being subversives he is flooding the country with foreigners with unknown intensions and letting them run loose

Out of the 10,000 people arrested or detained, only 556 were actually deported.

FDR said "hold my beer and watch this". ;)
