Congress job is to make laws, appropriate funds and in some cases, oversee operations in Executive Departments. Criminal investigations are the job of the Justice Dept.

The committee isn't prosecuting anybody, dumb ass. They referred the evidence they gathered to those that have the authority to prosecute, if they decide they want to.

Alan Dershowitz is wrong.

Dershowitz is devoid of credibility – and he’s entitled to his subjective, wrongheaded opinion, that that’s all it is.

You can't read what Dershowitz said? Duh.

Prof Alan Dershowitz Is a political pundit and hides the truth of the matter.

What is a congressional criminal referral?

Although there is no established or accepted definition, a congressional criminal referral is a non-binding communication to the DOJ, made either by a congressional committee or by individual Members of Congress, that specifically articulates evidence supporting the possible commission of a crime and asks the DOJ to ...3 days ago

Introduction to Criminal Referrals by Congress - CRS Reports

It is not the referral that matters, but the evidence that both the Committee and the DOJ have about what happened on 1/6.

That is what bothers Trump.

---------------
The historic criminal referral the House Jan. 6 committee issued urging the Justice Department to pursue charges against President Donald Trump is unlikely to sway many minds among prosecutors already pursuing multiple investigations, former DOJ officials said.

Prosecutors are more interested in the thousands of pages of witness statements and other records gathered by the House panel over the past 15 months, current and former officials said.

Congress now exists to go insane over the Orange man and to praise foreign leaders and drape their flag over the Speaker's podium.

In other words:

this nation is done. But we knew that.

Amazing how many Americans refuse to learn history. Its own or anybody else's.

Countries are not isolated as they used to. What happens in one part of the world affects the rest of the world.

It has been going on for the past 100 years, but so many people continue to live in a bubble.

Of course I can. A bill of attainer is passing a law declaring someone is guilty without a trial. That has not happend. No law has been passed. In Mayberry terms, that is the difference between Gomer telling Andy that Barney made an illegal U turn , and making a citizen's arrest.

Yes. And no.

When Bernie Maddoff was doing his thing and returning unrealistic results, on paper anyway, another investment guy ran the numbers. He was certain and could prove it mathematically. Bernie was a crook. He went to the FBI, the SEC, and walked the agents through the numbers. He even went to the US Attorney. This was years before the scam became public.

Bernie was well respected and nobody believed the guy. In other words anyone can walk to the authorities with proof of wrongdoing and give it to them. In fact, we are required to do just that. If we do not we are technically guilty as accessories after the fact.

So if I have assembled evidence that someone has committed a crime, and I do not submit it to the appropriate authorities, then I am a criminal.

Now, it is up to the appropriate authorities to take action. What action that is I don’t get to say. If they investigate and decide I am full of crap and seeing conspiracies everywhere. Then that is the appropriate action. If they decide it is baseless and ignore it. Then that is the appropriate action. If like Maddoff it turns out he is a massive crook and they ignored it despite experts walking them through the evidence and they rejected it, then they get the fallout.

So Congress referring anyone for prosecution is doing nothing but taking the evidence they have collected and submitting it to the appropriate authorities for consideration. They call it a referral, but it is nothing more than the legal civic duty of every citizen.

Imagine the result if the Republicans found evidence of wrongdoing by a Democrat and said. Nope. Sorry. It isn’t the purview of Congress to do anything with this.

Who are we kidding. Every Republican would trample the elderly and crippled children in a rush to the microphones to proclaim they had the proof the Democrats are even worse than they thought. They would stampede to the DOJ and demand prosecutions.
