What was the real reason for Daylight Savings Time?

The true reason why DST was created was to create a way to save energy and to get more use out of our natural daylight. After the Energy Policy Act of 2005 was established, every state or territory in the U.S. had the choice to opt-in or opt-out of DST.

On July 1, 1908, the residents of Port Arthur, Ontario—today's Thunder Bay—turned their clocks forward by one hour to start the world's first DST period.

What would happen if we got rid of Daylight Savings?

Removing a time change would mean a change to our daily exposure to natural light. View Source , which directly influences our circadian rhythms and our sleep-wake cycles. Light itself is the most important external factor in getting good sleep

I will be busy trying to figure out how to reset about 20 clocks on Sunday
My funniest memory of resetting clocks happened on an 11-7 shift when I was an X-Ray tech. The clocks throughout the hospital were all centrally controlled but were the old analog variety. I was sitting at the desk, bleary-eyed, about half way through my shift when I happened to glance at the clock and saw the damned thing spinning backwards. I looked down the hall and realized ALL OF THEM were spinning backward. I finally remembered what was happening but I still didn't need anymore coffee that morning :auiqs.jpg:

I hate having to reset all the clocks.

Do you really need to reset every clock? I find there are just a few main clocks that I rely on that can be easily reset and all the rest while they have the time on them, I simply remember in the back of my head whether they are set for DST or EST or whatever, then remember to either subtract or add an hour mentally during the summer or winter as needed to get the right time.

The good news is that the clock in my old Suburban is accurate again until November.
.

The one in the car is the easiest one to do and it's the one I always space out until I have an "Oh, SHIT!" moment when I think I'm late for an appointment or something.

Sounds you have an extremely disciplined mind!

I am in awe.

Hubby and I were nailed, two years in a row, when we spaced out setting our clocks back in November. Bizarrely, it just so happened that we were expecting his parents for brunch on that Sunday in November, two years in a row, an unusual occurrence.

He was a sweetly devoted son who doted on his normally very punctual parents, and we seriously freaked out when they were five minutes late, so when they strolled in an hour late, we were beside ourselves with worry!

Until we figured out what had happened.

That we allowed it to happen two years in a row was extremely embarrassing.

I do this also, mostly the oven/microwave clocks don't get changed until power go out. We really don't have that many clocks though. Personally I like DST getting more evening hours of daylight in the summer.

for the idiot that said he supports the time change because it keeps the kids from waiting for the bus in the dark----------------they will be doing that tomorrow and for the next several weeks. Changing the clocks just changes the time of year that they have to do that.

there are the same number or hours of daylight regardless of how we set the clocks, we cannot change the earth's rotation, its amazing how many people do not understand that.

but it doesn't do any of those things, there are the same number of hours of daylight no matter how our clocks are set, we cannot slow down or speed up the earth's rotation, its a foolish waste of time and deprives people of sleep and causes car wrecks and mental issues. It accomplishes nothing.

Right but the only way for it to still be daylight at 9 pm in the summer is DST.

why do we need it to be daylight at 9pm? don't you have electric lights? If its daylight at 9pm its dark at 7am, so the little kids are waiting for the bus in the dark. Is that safe? do your yard work at 8pm, geez dude this isn't complicated.
