It's amazing that Cuba is still being held hostage.

I really wanted to visit there when the ban on tourists from here was lifted, but we never got around to it. Spent a lot of time in Gitmo when in the navy, but never left the base, but did a lot of diving and fishing in Gitmo bay. They are very strong and proud people, I just can't see how we are treating them is helping us at all. I know that we hate communism, but if communism doesn't work, and it doesn't, why do we have to work so hard to have it fail? Can we not say it failed without us bankrupting ourselves to make it happen? That's what almost happened with Russia, they folded and yet we just kept the conflict going even stronger than before. Above my pay grade but this seems self-defeating to me.

Communism "doesn't work" because the US made sure it didn't work. Rather than because it couldn't work.

It could, perhaps. Just like capitalism succeeds and fails. The problem with Communism is that most who have tried, didn't really get around to the Communism bit, just stuck with the dictator bit.

Are we not oppressing them with embargos and punitive actions? We need to be better at this leader of the world role we insist on.

I agree, we should.

But as long as the Exile Community has so much sway in Florida, neither party is going to offend them by normalizing relations.

Ironically, if we had free trade and travel with Cuba, Communism would probably be gone in five years.

Negative, then all you would have is communism with a better living standard.

Communist systems have to fall hard.
