It is likely that there is nobody in high level positions in government who at sometime not had possession of a classified document that was technically illegal for them to have and/or that they misused. Admittedly some definitely were excessive in that. Sandy Berger was caught literally stuffing classified documents into his socks and underwear, was indicted, tried and convicted, and all he got was a $50,000 fine, probation for two years, and required community service. Probably sufficient for the consequences of the crime.

Don't look for any retribution in this case though. Trump is so opposed to weaponization of government against its citizens that I can't imagine him being guilty of using it that way. Tighten the law and the consequences for malfeasance in government perhaps, but there is nothing to be gained from revenge other than increasing the hostilities.
