The US was the driver that created the UN. Leaving would be the death knell of the United States influence around the world.

It's terribly sad that so many uninformed people perceive the UN as being some force that the US competes against, an enemy. But the USA gets a huge number of benefits from being a member and a permanent member of the security council.

The US uses the UN and has since it was created, it is a permanent member and so no security council resolution can ever be passed unless the US wants it.

The degree of stupidity here sometimes is off the scales.
