The mistake was to invade Iraq. A better plan would have been to establish the clandestine alliance we had with Iraq during the Iran - Iraq War. In that war we supported the side that was losing. We did not give it enough support to win, just enough to keep fighting. When Iraq started to win, we shifted our support to Iran.

That is the way to deal with wars between Muslim countries. For at least a generation the Muslims are going to be in a lethal mood. It is in our interest and Israel's to encourage them to fight each other.

There is no elegant way to withdraw from a lost war. At least American forces did not leave clinging to their helicopters like they did in Vietnam. Anyone who faults Biden on this is looking for excuses to hate him.

Really? I thought his decision on Afghanistan was pretty consistent. He said for years that still being there was a terrible idea, and he was right.

The problem with Afghanistan is that it was an example of the Sunk-Cost fallacy. We expended all this money, time, effort and lives into it, so we kept doing that for 20 years, even though EVERYONE knew the minute we left, the Taliban would be back in power by popular demand.

As for Ukraine, he was able to pull together an international coalition (after Trump spent years alienating most of our allies) to build support for Ukraine. In the first weeks of the war, nearly everyone thought that the Russians would Take Kyiv and impose their own puppet government. Instead, Putin is on the ropes.

While I disagree with continuing to entangle ourselves in the Israel-Palestine conflict, the reality of our politics is that the Zionists run Washington, and Biden has lived up to our obligations, while Trump has nursed past grievances against Bibi.
